OLIVE WOOD SALES
On the weekend of November 29-30, our brothers and
sisters representing the Christian Catholic Families of
Bethlehem will sell crucifixes, religious artwork, and
rosaries—all made of olive wood native to Israel and
Bethlehem—in the church vestibule. With tourism
numbers down, Christian families in the Holy Land, who
depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. Sales of
these goods will help them very much and also give you
the opportunity to have something authentic from the
Holy Land. Please browse and buy if you can. It is for a
good cause and also a help to your personal devotion. Go
to www.bcfmission.com for a preview of the many
products being offered.
OCTOBER AT THE VIRGIN OF THE POOR
Marion Devotions will be held each Sunday in October
at the Virgin of the Poor Shrine, located in New Hope,
Tennessee. The Walk-Around-Rosary begins at 12:15pm
(Central Time). For more information, or directions,

the joys and challenges of living the sacrament of
Matrimony in their day-to-day lives. Cost is $135 per
couple, and the retreat certificate is good for a $60
discount on a marriage license. The Retreat runs 7-10pm
on Friday evening and 9am to 6pm on Saturday. Meals

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING
INFORMATION SESSION
Our parish community actively participates in the 2014
Bishop’s Appeal, which assists parishes and sustains
ministries throughout the Diocese. Your support helps
train priests, deacons, and parish leaders; reveals Jesus
Christ to others through religious education and the
sacraments; and changes countless lives through the work
of Catholic Charities. Thanks for your support!
Would you like to enhance your marriage and help give it
a good foundation? The Office of Marriage Preparation
and Enrichment is partnering with Natural Family
Planning (NFP) Couple to Couple League instructors to
offer a FREE information session on NFP and Church
teachings which support its use in marriage on
November 8, at 4pm at the Basilica of Sts. Peter & Paul in

avoiding pregnancy, aids couples that have previously
experienced infertility, and can help identify underlying
health issues. Couples practicing NFP experience
enhanced communication and intimacy. Babysitting is

A WORD FROM BISHOP STIKA
ON AMENDMENT ONE
One of the great privileges of living in a democracy is the
right of its citizens to vote. Although the Catholic Church
will never identify itself with any political community or
system, we can and must speak up in support of moral
issues. One such issue that we as Catholics will have an
opportunity to vote on November 4th is Amendment
One. This amendment is neither a Republican nor a
Democrat issue, but a moral and life issue of greatest
magnitude. A yes vote on Amendment One, a prolife
amendment, would neutralize the extreme interpretation
taken by the Tennessee State Supreme Court in 2000 in
which they declared that our State Constitution
guarantees the right to an abortion. Passage of this
amendment would restore back to the voters the “life”
decisions that were taken from them by the state court
decision. For this reason, I and my brother Bishops in
Nashville and Memphis wholeheartedly ask for your
support for “life” by voting for “Yes on One” this
November 4th.

PARENTS, HAVE YOU
EVER THOUGHT…
… WHEN do I start talking to my child about virtuous living and authentic love?
… WHAT should I say?
… HOW do I let my child know that they are made in the image of God with inherent dignity?
… WHERE do I begin to teach them that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?
Family Honor will answer these questions and more during Leading & Loving, our new adult-only program for any
parent or guardian of a child from 0-11 years of age.
Leading & Loving is a unique Catholic program that will help you become more confident and competent in how to raise
virtuous children and how to respond to your young child’s questions about the truth & meaning of God’s gift of sexuality.
Topics include:
• Our bodies as a visible sign of God to be honored
• The language of love: How do I speak it?
• God’s gift of sexuality: How do I share its awe & wonder?
• Dealing with tough issues with truth and mercy
Join other parents in this unique opportunity!

Refleccion Sobre La Palabra De Dios
”.
moral y religioso. Todos parecen espasmódicamente
lanzados hacia conquistas materiales: gastar, invertir,
rodearse de nuevas comodidades, pasarlo bien... Dios,
coherencia” (Luciani, A. Ilustrísimos señores p. 219).
(Plegaria III); cuando cumplimos sus mandamientos;
preso y me visitaste.” [Matteo 25:34-36].
pluma. En estos momentos tenemos 31 amigos de
plumas voluntarios (incluyendo 10 Hispanos) y 42 presos
participando (Incluyendo 9 Hispanos).
