Bi-weekly Publication October 17, 2014 Vol. 29 Issue 18 One Church...Two Campuses Mission Campus: 5601 West 62nd Street / Mission, KS 66202 Shawnee Campus: 21320 Midland Dr/Shawnee, KS 66218 The Messenger Preschool Singing During Worship on October 12 The preschoolers sang during 11:00 worship this past weekend at our Shawnee campus. As always, they brought joy to our hearts! They sang one of their favorites; “I am unique, I’m like nobody else, God made each of us very special, I am myself!” Preschool worship time has been focusing on the theme: “God made each of us different.” What a great message from our little ones! The Call Committee conducted its last telephone interview of candidates on October 14 and currently is in the process of discerning which candidates to invite for a weekend on-site interview. Please continue to keep the work of the Call Committee in your prayers. Dear Trinity Community: I wanted to take an opportunity to remind you of the celebration of Reformation the weekend of October 25-26. This is a very meaningful time in the church year especially as Lutherans. Join us as we celebrate the power of change in the church and give thanks for the sixteenth-century Reformation which renewed the church of that time. Wear red and join us for festival worship services! First, our Bach Cantata Series resumes Saturday, October 25, at the new time of 5 pm. This series has been a wonderful way to experience the rich musical tradition of Lutheranism but has also been a significant outreach to the Kansas City Arts Community. We start with the beloved cantata: BWV 80 - Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott (A Mighty Fortress Is Our God) which is based on the timeless hymn that we all know and love. Next, plan to attend special festival worship at all our morning services on Sunday, October 26. The traditional services will include choir and brass quintet and our contemporary services will feature special music as well. Finally, to complete the celebration of Reformation, Trinity will be hosting the Kansas Circuit 3 Reformation Service Sunday, October 26, 2 pm, at the Mission Campus. We will have a mass choir of over 75+ voices including the concert choir from Lutheran High School. Churches from our district will be joining us for this very special worship experience. Additionally, the Rev. Lee Hovel will be offering the message. I hope you will join us for the many Reformation events! Ben A. Spalding Director of Music and the Arts Relentless in knowing Christ...Fearless in making Him known. Thanks to all who came out and participated Sunday afternoon (Oct 5) for the Mission Campus Dress Down Sunday work day. Bushes were trimmed, flower beds were weeded, ceiling tiles in lower level education restrooms and throughout were replaced. Your efforts have had a big impact on how the Trinity Mission Campus presents itself to both members as well as guests. The Property Committee Octoberfest Hosted by 50+ Group x 50+ Octoberfest featured fall fellowship for all who attended! The event had 65 people in attendance enjoying the beautiful weather on the patio and a delicious German buffet with bratwurst (of course!), sauerkraut, German potato salad and homemade apple crisp a la mode. Marvin Brockschmidt led the Bible study on the topic of Old Testament prophets. 50+ would enjoy having more people come to their events. They have been growing in the past few years due in great part to eager leadership, thought-provoking Bible studies, and excellent company. Anyone in the congregation who has hit the magical half-century mark is welcome to attend. A weekly Bible study is each Wednesday at 10:15 in the Mission fellowship hall. The next big event is the Christmas party on December 10 which also features entertainment in some fashion.
