Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments are asked to invite applications from
suitably qualified officers in their Ministries/Departments to fill the post of Communications
Director (MCG/IE 5) in the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, salary range $1,631,717 $1,939,599 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent is responsible for the management of the
public education of the organization by developing appropriate strategies to ensure the timely
dissemination/exchanging of information to all internal and external customers/stakeholder and
the stimulation of interest in the protection of the island’s cultural heritage through partnership,
education and co-operation in the declaration and preservation of this cultural heritage.
Key Responsibilities
Develops and implements new and creative ideas in the Management and Development
of Jamaica's Heritage Resources which will create job opportunities for the people in
areas of heritage sites, e.g. catering and handicraft;
Represents the Trust on various committees and working groups on the subject of
Heritage Education and development;
Develops and directs Public Education Programmes for schools, radio, television, print
media, that will stimulate and sustain interest in and support for preservation, restoration
and development of Jamaica's heritage resources for national development in the areas
of education and economic development especially in Heritage Tourism;
Develops Heritage Foundation’s (NGOs) in each parish by organizing seminars,
workshops, conferences and symposia;
Develops heritage-related materials for the school system in conjunction with the
Ministry of Youth and Culture;
Conceptualizes and directs the National Heritage Week Programme of activities
islandwide;
Develops and sustains a JNHT Fund-Raising Committee, to bring the Business
Community together for financial support of the many projects of the Trust, and
develops projects for international funding and monitors potential areas for future
fund-raising ventures;
Develops and implements programmes to ensure that regional infrastructural
development plans across the island do not jeopardize the historical interest and
heritage integrity of the areas.

Minimum Required Qualification and Experience
A First Degree in Mass Communication or Liberal Arts
At least five (5) years’ experience in Communications or Public Relations three (3) years
of which should be at the senior management level
