Thank You! News from Fr. Steve: This past Friday our area faith community was honored to receive the “Partners in Hope” Award from Heartland Community Action Agency. Our parishes have always had a great working relationship with Heartland over the years but recently we have committed financial resources from our tithing funds every month to partner with Heartland in assisting the needy of our area. Through this partnership, an emergency fund has been set up in order that Heartland can provide assistance to those in need. This emergency assistance includes helping the needy with rental assistance, heat assistance, gas for transportation to and from work, etc. Pope Francis in his encyclical, The Joy of the Gospel, calls us to be people of justice who work to cloth the naked, feed the hungry, give shelter to the homeless and visit the sick. Our partnership with Heartland is one way in which each of us in this area faith community is able to respond to this gospel mandate. Our commitment to Heartland and our ability to help others who come to us in need is made possible because our area has made an act of faith by tithing a portion of our Sunday collection. Since 1976 the Church of St. Mary in Willmar has been tithing 10% of its Sunday collection and has given out over a million dollars over these years to those who are in need; most of it locally. The Church of Our Lady of the Lakes has begun with this current fiscal year starting July 1 to tithe 5% of its Sunday collection to assist the needy and poor. I am grateful to those on our administrative councils both past and present who have demonstrated leadership and wisdom, faith and trust, that in giving back a portion of what we have received from God that He will bless us a hundredfold. The blessings we are receiving through our tithing and partnership efforts are many. Together we are making a difference in the lives of those who are struggling and in the life of our parishes and area faith community. Thank you for your continued generosity in the giving of your time, talent and treasure in each of our parishes and in so doing, your commitment to helping the poor and those in need. WORSHIP WORD—ADULT Small Christian Community: “Because the Church is communion, the new 'basic communities', also known as Small Christian Communities, if they truly live in unity with the Church, are a true expression of communion and a means of construction of a more profound communion. They are thus cause for great hope for the life of the Church" (Pope John Paul II, The Mission of the Redeemer, 51). Want to be part of a Small Christian Community? Contact any member or Facilitators of current communities or Anisabel at 320-235 0118, or email anisabelpalma@ourlivingwater.org for more information.
