Korowai Blessing
On the 23rd of October Avonhead School
held a special assembly to bless the
Korowai, our special taonga, that have been
given to us by our wonderful Whanau
Group. These two cloaks were made in the
North Island by a very talented lady - Mrs
Kapene. The cloaks tell our story and will be
awarded to two outstanding leaders in our
senior Kapa Haka Group each year, who
will wear these at the final prize giving.
Afterwards the Korowai will take pride of
place in our foyer area of the office and
entrance area. This is the start of a
wonderful journey and a first for Avonhead
School. For those who were at the blessing
ceremony you know what a special and
moving time it was for us all. We would like
to say a special thank you to our Whanau
Group for their organisation and vision, to
ensure these beautiful Korowai are now a
part of Avonhead School.
Celebrations etc!
