Nau mai haere mai, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Bula Vinaka!
We are all excited at Avonhead School! Early next week/877 we expect to be
connected to high-speed fibre! We have waited for it for a long time and as we use
a lot of devices throughout the school day, there are many times when the internet
is slowed down as the copper wires are a bottle-neck at the moment. You may be
interested to know that our school is ready to use the new fibre system as we have
had a network upgrade throughout the school and the wireless system has
recently been upgraded! We look forward to sharing educational videos with
classes without the ‘buffering’ delays!
Just a reminder that the term-1 school holidays are earlier this year. We finish
school at 3pm on Thursday 2nd April and children return back to school on 20th
April. Also, please remember that Monday, April 27th is a holiday for students as
it is the first of the ‘Mondayisation’ of a public holiday – having a public holiday on
Monday as ANZAC day falls on a Saturday. Finally, just want to remind you (or
alert you) to the fact that the 29th May is a ‘Teacher Only Day’ when the school
will be closed. This is attached to the Queen’s birthday weekend so it can allow
families to have a good break.
It’s great to see the Senior students settling into the ‘HQ’ – the new buildings, and
some of the new furniture is starting to arrive. It’s awesome to be able to walk
through and see the wonderful things happening and the work that the children are
producing. Every student I have spoken to tells me how much they love the new
buildings and enjoy being in there. It’s amazing what a difference an amazing
environment makes to the learning enjoyment/satisfaction of students. When we
get all the new furniture sorted we will have an open day when you too can
appreciate the new learning environment.
On another note, the Senior team is looking for a wonderful parent/grandparent or
friend-of-the family to building a custom-made, standalone shelving unit with
cupboard doors, so if you can help, we would love to hear from you. Let us know
in the office if you can help. Thank you.
Thank you to the nine Avonhead families who looked after our Korean student
teachers when they were here for the first four weeks of the year. I will be
travelling over to Korea with the Principals of neighbouring schools at the end of
this month and we will be presenting a seminar to students there on the NZ
Education System at Gongju University. Gongju is a well-known and well
respected, prestigious educational institution and we are delighted to be involved
with this collaborative initiative involving the others schools in our cluster.
