EXALTED RULER MESSAGE TRUSTEES MESSAGE Thank you everyone for yet another productive month in October. Your hard work and dedication is amazing. The Benefit for Ryley was a great success, as were the Eye Fair and Oktobeerfest. We hope that all who attended these events and our Halloween party, had a great time. November is also extremely busy for us. We have the Clay Shooting Competition on November 1, the Charity Ball on November 8 along with our LOE events and, of course, Thanksgiving. We are now heading into the holiday season and many of us will be traveling to visit family and friends. If you are traveling, please be careful and have fun. The Elks and LOE have a lot of events and functions that are happening right now and in the months to come. So if you are looking for something to do or some place to go or something to see, we should have you covered. Like I said before, there is something for everyone. Not everything going on is in the Lodge; we have projects that we are involved in outside of the Lodge, like the Smart Start program for the young ones just starting out in sports. Our charities and events are shown in more detail. Check our Facebook page ( Update on Dance Class Monday nights 5:00 - 6:00 pm. The dance classes are a huge success. We had 58 participants the first week and 72 participants the second week. What's important is that everyone seems to be having fun! We are doing West Coast Swing and will begin a new dance every 6-8 weeks. It is easier if you have a partner, but not required. Be sure to arrive early. All guests need to be signed in, which takes time. Hot dogs and wings are available following the class, and you're welcome to join. Just place your order, relax with a drink, and they will let you know when your food is ready. It is fun to socialize and meet new friends. I thank you for your patience with such a large class. GIVING BACK WITH HELPING HANDS The Episcopal church has a soup kitchen that offers lunch four times a week. Once a month the Elks volunteer to purchase food, cook, and serve. EARLY CHILDHOOD WRITING WORKSHOP The Lodge is sponsoring two children to attend a writing workshop presented by the Southern Utah Early Childhood Connection (SUECC), a non-profit organization devoted to promoting Early Childhood Education in Southern Utah. Drug Awareness was busy celebrating Red Ribbon Week. Many of are local schools had activities and handed out Elks Drug Awareness coloring books, crayons, book markers, pencils, and Red Ribbons to wear in observance of a drug free life style. Thank You, Dave and Kathy Johnson, our Drug Awareness Committee. A huge thank you to all of the donors and participants for the Benefit for Ryley. As Elks we truly showed that Elks Care and Elks Share. The Utah Elks Association has committed to donating matching funds of up to $1,500, which enhanced what the benefit raised. Money donated will go toward a wheelchair lift for this young man and his family. Great job - Dixie Elks Lodge # 1743. You really do make a difference in the lives of our children and community. We had 75 people join the No Tap Tournament on Sunday, October 12. What better way to practice for the Huntsman bowling than striving for those color pin strikes. We had three people bowl a "300" game with not a lot of no tap strikes mixed in: Michelle Brosier, Bill Brooks, and Krista Wiester. Good job! Al Bramlet and Doyle Mouser were our high money winners for men this month only to be beat out by our two lady high money winners, Krista Wiester and Michelle Brosier. We had three men drawn to try for the Lucky 13, but unfortunately no one was able to quite get those 13 pins down this month. A BIG hi to Evelyn Jones who stopped by to visit with lots of the bowlers. Our next bowling event will by November 9 with check in no later than 1:30 pm at Sunset West Lanes.
