Clendenin held its annual Trick or Treat night on October 30th and with
hundreds of little goblins enjoying the nice night and no major incidents it was a great evening to take pictures of them while they were
treated at Sams Auction. From witches, to princesses, to heroes, to Paw
Pals, to cowboys, to dragons, to Gumby, there wasn’t a shortage of
awesome costumes. I wish we could have put all the great costumes in
this issue but with space limited I picked out a few that was a hard to
choose. Check out page 10 for more pictures.

Hello Readers,
I know 99% of my readers will agree with me when I say I am so glad all the negative
political ads are over with along with the pestering phone calls. A lot of politicians
lost votes especially Danny’s and mine because of this. I would like to say that there
were two politicians that never ran a smear campaign and they get the sportsmanship
of politician’s award as far as I am concern. These two men were Delegate Tim Armstead and State Senator Erik Wells. Congratulations Guys for your clean campaign.
This year the Town of Clendenin will be hosting activities for the Christmas Season
that includes a Craft Bazaar at the community Center, a parade, and a pancake breakfast with Santa. This many activities are the first the town has sponsored in years for
the Holidays. The Town is making an effort to bring fun back to our area. Anyone
who would like to support this effort and is interested in donating their time, supplies
for the Pancake Breakfast, or donations towards the Falls and Festival fund toward
the 2015 July Fourth Celebration is urged to call Town Hall (304-548-4192) or stop
by Town Hall.
As most of my readers know Danny and I also have Sams Auction in Clendenin. We
were pleased of the turnout at our last auction and look forward the future auctions
over the next couple months. We will be having regular Friday night auctions until
Christmas. The next few auctions we will be auctioning off our normal auction items,
which includes, tons of Christmas items and Christmas gift items, BUT we purchased
a HUGE estate of tools from a former garage owner and that will be making a lot of
men happy. Check out our ad on page 12 & 13 for some of the items that will be sold
or auctioned off. We look forward to seeing a big crowd in the next few weeks.
This week I celebrated my first Birthday without my mom. I understand now what
other people say about Holidays and special occasions being the hardest. This was the
first time I didn’t get to hear my mom sing Happy Birthday to me. It was very hard,
but Danny went out of his way to keep my mind off of it by fixing me breakfast, taking me out to dinner, showering me with birthday presents and roses, but of course
having cake with family and friends. Danny was my guardian angel on this special,
but sad day. My friends and family also showered me with Birthday wishes that I
really appreciated. I am blessed. Until the next issue…Keep smiling! Sug

heavy rain and snow this winter. We are still repairing and cleaning storm drains and getting our equipment serviced and ready to
go. The Town of Clendenin is still looking for someone to contract to help with snow removal, must have a small truck or ATV
with a blade, must be insured and able to work when needed call
Town Hall at (304)548-4192 for more info. Trick or Treat went
very well again this year, thanks to The Clendenin Police Department for working to keep the hundreds of Goblins safe Thursday
Night. With the increased use and because of limited space at
Clendenin's area for Residents to dispose of yard waste the hours
of operation are going to change. A sign will be posted at the entrance soon with the new hours of operation. The Town of Clendenin also must use this site and maintain the site in order to
keep it open to Clendenin Residents Only, we must make these
changes. We are meeting with officials and engineers this week
over the alley behind Chase Bank to see what can be done. As
always if you have any questions or concerns please give me a
call.

Take me out to the Ballgame
I had driven for hours hoping to get to my destination by nightfall, but I realized my
schedule of arriving when I expected to wasn’t going to happen. With the traffic jams,
and a flat tire I was hours behind schedule. I wanted to get to my old hometown and
surprise my dad. I had called and told him I’d be coming home for a few days and he
acted so excited to hear from me. I called him and told him I was running late and I’d
be there by noon the next day. My dad sounded tired and I asked him if everything
was ok. He said he was tired, but would be rested by morning for her visit. I checked
into a hotel and was so tired I couldn’t wait to lie down. I was a bit worried about my
dad because he was so tired sounding, but also was I and I quickly put my tiredness in
front of the concern and unlocked my hotel room and quickly settled in for the night. I
had dozed off and something woke me. I laid there for a minute then I heard it again.
It was the room next door with the TV up too loud. I recognized the show of a rerun
of Gun Smoke. I smiled, because it brought back memories of me watching the show
with my dad. I think he had watched every episode at least five times! After a bit the
show went off and it got quiet. I went back to sleep only to be awaken again later of
what sounded like a ballgame. I looked at my cell phone and I had got a couple of
hours sleep. I laid there with a pillow over my head but I could still hear the ballgame.
Cincinnati Reds was playing. I remember the game dad and I went to when I was little. I had enjoyed the day out with my dad immensely. I was a huge tomboy and was
thrilled to get to brag about my big day out with my dad to all my friends the next day
at school. We attended numerous ones after that. Looking at me now in my dress
clothes as an attorney no one would ever realized how tomboyish I use to be. After
about fifteen minutes I was wide awake with the sound of the TV next door so I decided my few hours of sleep was enough to make the trip that would have me arriving
by daybreak at my dad’s house. I packed the few things I brought in and stopped at
the front desk to check out. The hotel clerk asked was everything okay and I told him
that the TV in the room next to mine was turned up too loud. He looked puzzled and
said the room next to mine was vacant. I told him that they must have missed up the
room numbers because someone was definitely watching TV in that room. The hotel
clerk apologized and offered me a refund, but I refused because the few hours of sleep
had energized me where I was wide awake and I felt like I got what I paid for. The
clerk was going down the hall to check out the room next to mine as I was leaving. I
got on the road and headed towards my dad’s house. An hour into the drive I received
a phone call from the hotel clerk and said no one was in the room next to mine, but
the TV was on. They figured the maid had turned the TV on while cleaning and forgot
to turn it off. After I hung up and was pondering what he had said, I thought it was
weird that the two things that reminded me of my dad was what my dad always
watched or had meanings to me and my dad. I looked at the dashboard clock and figured I give dad another twenty minutes before I’d call him. Dad was an early riser and
I figured he would be up by then and I wouldn’t disturb him. I was about forty-five
minutes from dad and turned the radio on to keep me company. The first song that
came on was one that had played at my wedding and my dad and I had our father and
daughter dance together. That was it! All this was too many coincidences, something
wasn’t right. I tried to call dad, but he didn’t answer. I called dads neighbor that I
knew would be up early getting ready for work and asked them to check on dad and
informed them I’d be there within thirty minutes. My neighbor called back within five
minutes and said they found dad lying in the kitchen unconscious and already called
an ambulance. I told them I would meet the ambulance at the hospital. I arrived at the
same time of the ambulance and ran to the back of the ambulance. The paramedics
opened the door and dad was semiconscious. He pulled the oxygen mask down and
said, “I knew you would come.” The doctor said dad would probably have died if he
hadn’t being brought in when he was. If I had waited until the morning to leave the
hotel dad wouldn’t had made it. The next day I was sitting beside dad in a chair and
we were watching the Reds play and I asked him if he knew who had won the night
he had had his heart attack. Dad said no one had won, because it was rained out that
night and the Reds didn’t even get to go onto the field because of the lightening!
Chills ran up my spine and knew dad’s guardian angel was looking out for him.

Your Help Is Needed
Visit us now: http://elkriverblessings.webs.com/
Help get students off to a great start by providing food for
needy kids. Donate now. $10 packs a bag of food each week.
We support 100 students in five schools on the Elk River in
WV. The mission of Elk River Back Packs is to provide food
to elementary students whose main source for food is their
school. We provide a back pack of nutritious, kid friendly
food at the end of each school week. Students take the back
packs of food home at the end of the week and return the bag at the start of the
next week. When there is a long school break, we send home a box of food to
help feed the students while not in school. Our goal is to help ease the hunger
of the child so that they attend school regularly, have better health, and are successful. We started this program in October with 19 students in two schools. In
approximately eight weeks we have included two more schools and 21 more
students. December 1st we will add another school and 17 more students. Making a total of 57 students who will be participating in our program. We now
have 100 students in our program from five different schools. We need help
providing food each week. At the approximate cost of $10 per back pack, we
need $1000 to maintain our current level service. We are asking you to "pack a
bag" by donating $10. Our program is housed in Clendenin Methodist Church
in Clendenin, WV. Our coordinator is Debi O'Dell, a retired teacher with 37
years of service in our local high school. With the help of community members,
the program continues to grow. All material and labor is provided by community volunteers.
