Intensify your prayer time, meditation, and good deeds. For if satan’s temptations merely cause you to increase your efforts to grow in holiness, he’ll have an incentive to leave you alone. —St. Ignatius of Loyola Monday: Tuesday: MISSION STATEMENT Immaculate Conception Church Parish and the Mission of the Sacred Heart is a welcoming community, centered in the E ucha rist , r ooted in fa ith , growing in fell ow shi p, and sharing in unity the mission Christ entrusted to us. Some happy occasions are listed below: Center in Walker. Though not an official ministr y of the parish, parishioners do work in this ministry, and it was good to welcome them. Our Children’s Choir was photographed a few weeks ago at their weekly practice on Wednesday evening at Sometimes it is great to see things you have slowly become accustomed to through another’s eyes. A few weeks ago, Tammy Jackson and I had the opportunity to give Mayor Jimmy Durbin, Marshall Jerry Denton and Councilman Rene Delahoussaye a tour of the Faith Formation Center. I wish you could have heard all the compliments they shared with us about what we have done together. 5:30. They sang at St. Joseph Cathedral toward the end of October and will sing Thanksgiving Eve for our Thanksgiving Eucharist. They will be singing again Christmas Eve and occasionally sing on Sunday at the 11:00 Eucharist. We thank them for their ministry and thank also Simon Pfeil and Glenn Forbes who minister with them. Any youth who may wish to join them can do so, by simply showing up for practice Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. We celebrated God’s gift of forgiveness sacramentally this past week with 103 of our younger parishioners as they gathered with family to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. They celebrated with the Good Shepherd who seeks out his sheep, and carries them on his shoulder. This week, we will continue the celebration in the rectory when they come to class and are taken by teachers to the rectory for cookies and soft drinks. We thank Barbara Normand, the parents and teachers who prepared them for this special time and wish these young parishioners God’s every blessing as they prepare for First Eucharist later during the Easter Season. As we moved into November, the parish was able to host the Taste Fair and Auction offered by the Women’s Resource One of our Leadership goals is to have more young adults involved in Leadership Night and in parish ministries, so it was good to welcome Jeffrey Wale (speaking at left with Durwin Walker) to Leadership Night two weeks ago. Jeffrey has a history of working with the parish in leadership roles from his high school days. When I arrived in the parish five years ago, he was on the transition team, representing youth. Soon after, studies at L.S.U., and moving out of the parish forced him to let go of active ministries in the parish. Jeffrey recently moved back to Denham Springs, passed the bar exam and has been sworn in as an attorney. One of the first things he did upon returning to the parish was contact me about becoming involved again in ministry. He will work with the parish on Leadership Nights, visiting the different commissions, and putting together a report for the parish on how things are going. This role is a “work in progress” and we will see how it goes and tweak it in the coming months. We thank Jeffrey and the other young adults who are stepping forward to assume responsibilities in the parish. When there are so many parishioners seeking to share the forgiveness and the love of Christ in so many ways, there is good cause of thankfulness as we move together toward Thanksgiving. Let us pray for each other; Love, Page Four Sunday, November 16, 2014 The Grapevine Immaculate Conception Church November 16 — November 29, 2014 Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM Mass/C 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM Ladies Guild Bazaar/MH 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Mass/MSH 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Sunday Mass/C 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Nursery/TB4 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Mass/C 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Children's Lit/ SH 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Spirit Band/C 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM PSR 6-10/FFC 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Mass/C 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1 PM AA Meeting/SH 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM PSR 1-8M/FFC 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Confirmation Make-up/FFC 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM PSR 1-10 Grade/ FFC 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM G A-Matt/SH 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD/MH 12:00 PM - 1 PM AA Meeting/SM 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM Reconciliation/C 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM Girl Scouts/PMAC 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM Mass/Nv/Ben/C 6:30 PM - Confirmation Class/MH 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Adult Choir/C 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Cub Scouts Committee/TB1 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM PSR 1-6/FFC 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM Children's Choir/C 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM G A James/SH 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM PSR 1-6/FFC 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM PSR 1-10/MSH 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD/MH 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM G A-1st Cor/FFC 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM Small Faith/R2 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Adult Ed/FFC 210 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM TMIY/R2 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM RCIA Session/MH 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Boy Scouts/TB 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM RCIA-C/TB3 8:00 AM - 8:25 AM Reconciliation/C 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Charismatic Prayer Group/C 7:00 AM - 8:30 AM That Man Is You/SH 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM RCIA Reflection Retreat/MH 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM Confirmation Retreat 2/OF 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM RCIA Practice for Rite/C 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM Reconciliation/C 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday Mass/C 23 24 25 28 29 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM Mass/C 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Mass/MSH 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Sunday Mass/C 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM RCIA Rite Acceptance/MH Nursery/TB4 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Mass/C 12:15 PM - 1:30 PM Baptisms/C 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Spirit Band/C 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Mass/C 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 12:00 PM - 1 PM AA Meeting/SH 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM TMIY/R2 12:00 PM - 1 PM AA Meeting/SH 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM Reconciliation/C 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM Mass/Nv/Ben/C 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Adult Choir/C 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Men's Club/SH 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Facilities Mtg/R2 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Men's Ultreya/R1 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM Cub Scouts/P 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM CDA Meeting/ MH 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Cub Scouts #283/ TB 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Men's Ultreya/R1 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM KC Business Meeting/OF 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM RCIA Sponsor Meeting/FFC 26 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thanksgiving Mass/C 27 HAPPY THANKSGIVING 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED 7:00 AM - 8:30 AM That Man Is You/R2 CHURCH OFFICE 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM CLOSED AA Meeting/SH 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM 8:00 AM - 8:25 AM Wedding: Morales/ Reconciliation/C McMorris/C 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Mass/C Wedding Reception: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Morales/McMorris/ AA Meeting/SH MH 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM Wedding ReReconciliation/C hearsal: Morales/ 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM McMorris/C Sunday Mass/C 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Charismatic Prayer Group/C St. Vincent de Paul is in need of your help! (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) There will be a meeting for all sponsors on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 7 p.m. The Inquiry R.C.I.A. Sessions will come to an end on Thursday, November 20. The inquirers have been attending weekly sessions since August and have been learning about our Catholic faith. Saturday, November 22, the inquirers will be assigned a sponsor to serve as their companion during the next stage of their journey. Next Sunday, November 23, the Rite of Welcome/Acceptance will be held at the 9 a.m. Mass for the inquirers who have made the decision to enter into the Order of Catechumens and continue their journey of faith. The Rite of Welcome/Acceptance is the first of the public rites celebrated in the R.C.I.A. During this important ritual, the inquirers publicly declare their intention to continue their journey toward full initiation into the Catholic Church, and we (as the Church community) accept them and offer our support. Please join with us next week in the celebration as we present the catechumens and candidates to the Church community, share in their journey and offer our prayers. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 9 a.m. BREC’s Highland Road Community Park On September 24, 2013, four days after starring in a Varisity football game, Monroe Lockhart was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In one week he went from being local high school star athlete to a St. Jude patient. It has been a whirlwind of a year for the entire family, especially Monroe, who is presently in our Confirmation process this year. During this month of November, Monroe and his family are celebrating one year of remission! In thanksgiving to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, for all they have done for Monroe, a 5K walk will take place to raise funds to help other children in this battle. Your donations help families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food. St. Jude freely shares the breakthrough it makes and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Join us in giving thanks for the gift of life, the gift of Monroe and the support needed to help so many other children win the race against cancer.
