NEWSLETTER 13 November 2014 Stella Maris Catholic Primary School N E W S L E T T E R Dear Families In this Sunday’s Gospel we hear about the parable of the talents when Jesus is teaching the disciples and us about the kingdom of God. Jesus tells this story to his disciples (and us) to prepare for the days ahead when their faith will be tested. This parable depicts how the disciples are to demonstrate their faithfulness as they anticipate the return of the Lord. What does faithfulness look like in a time of waiting? Faithfulness is emulating the ministry of Jesus. Jesus has announced the arrival of God's kingdom by feeding the hungry, curing the sick, blessing the meek, and serving the least. All who would follow Jesus are to preach the good news of the kingdom to all by going about the work that the master has called them to do. This work includes visiting the sick and imprisoned, clothing the naked, welcoming the stranger, and feeding the hungry. Those who are found faithful will hear their Master say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Tomorrow we celebrate our schools “Foundation Day” and “Day for All Days”. Staff and students are looking forward to this day, when we will come together to reflect on our schools beginning and have fun activities planned for the day. All students will get an ice block at lunchtime. Congratulations to past pupils: Rose Fitzmaurice who has been appointed Deputy Head Girl at Orewa College in 2015. From Rosmini College: Year 11 commitment to learning Christopher McKinstry, Patrick McSweeney and Reinhart Bate, Reinhart also won 5 subject prizes. Marcos Monguzzi won 2 subject prizes. This is the Apostles’ question and ours as well. Pope Francis says “a faith that is set within the framework of service” to God and to our neighbour. A humble, freely given and generous service which is always “complete”. Only in this way is it possible to truly open oneself to the hope of the final encounter with Jesus. Let our prayer be this week to ask for a generous heart to those around us.
