Remembrance Day
Ninety-one years ago at 11am on 11 November 1918, an
armistice brought an end to four years of hostility and
destruction and nations around the world celebrated the
return of peace.
During World War I, more than 60,000 Australians died and
an additional 156,000 Australians were wounded or taken
prisoner-of-war. Until 1939, the anniversary of the end of
World War I was called ‘Armistice Day’.
Following World War II, which saw the loss of over 39,000
Australians, the British and Australian governments changed
the name to ‘Remembrance Day’, making it one to
commemorate all who have suffered and died at war.
More recently, 41 Australian soldiers have been killed and
256 wounded (including two sailors and one airman), the
majority since October 2007.
Red poppies are worn on blazers, shirts, jumpers and other
items of clothing on Remembrance Day to remember those
who died during war. Poppies were among the first plants
that came from the battlefields of northern France and
Belgium during World War I. Some people believed the
popular myth that poppies were rich in their redness because
they blossomed from grounds that were saturated with
soldiers’ blood.
On Remembrance Day 2014, Australia will reflect on the
102,000 men and women who never made it home. Our
school captains will make a special announcement to
commemorate the day on Tuesday.

not too warm, and there was very little wind to slow us down.
Thankyou to the following parents for joining us on the ride;

Clark, Heidi Johnoor, Darren Klein, Gavin Martin, Fiona
McLean, Naomi Pedler , Peter Robinson, Yvette Ross, Merryn

the staff who attended; Simone Delzoppo, Taila Donald, Jessie
Mills and Libby Syle (who organised the event).
Congratulations to everyone involved for making the day a
successful one. It was a great way for the students to finish
off their bike education training.

YEAR 3 CAMP NEWS
Over the last two weeks the Year 3’s have been busily writing
letters to the staff at Camp Rumbug to thank them for all their
hard work. The camp was a huge success with fun had by all
students and staff!
Dear Moz, Lachie, Jack and all the other 120% rated staff of
Camp Rumbug,
Camp Rumbug is the BEST!!!! Epic combined with awesome
would be SO underrating your amazing camp!!!! We were so
tired but it was DEFINITELY worth it!
Firstly, the engineering of the Scare Bear was made for pure
fun! I went to the very top, and as soon as Lachie pulled that
rope, all thoughts, anything was immediately, Zap, Bam,
GONE! My heart was stuck in my throat as I plummeted back
down to the ground. Suddenly I was pulled sideways into a
massive swing shape! Scare Bear was amazingly good!
Secondly, canoeing…Epic!!!! Paddling around the lake, I was
quick to learn, as I have never been canoeing before. Oh, and
by the way, Lachie I’ll never forget your urge to tag me and
my parent helper partner!!!! 10 out of 10!!!!
Thirdly, the food…Scrumptious. Thank you Tracker and all the
other wonderful cooks!!!! Bacon and eggs - lovely and a top
idea.
The desserts and suppers - mmmm!!!! 5 star
restaurant!!!!
Finally, the Fun and Fitness Trail! You must have ordered that
freezing water from
Mount Everest! Miss
Ludon and Mr Morford
had a blast saturating us
without caring at all, no
matter how cold we
got!!!! 10 out of 10
certainly; 20 out of 10
for how much the
teachers enjoyed it!!!!
To end this letter to your amazing camp, THANK YOU for
organising and letting us come to your 120% rated camp!
THANK YOU all for your efforts in making this AMAZING
camp!!!!

FUNCARE
As we have moved into November, it’s important that all
children attending Funcare have a hat to wear when playing
outside. Increasingly children are being encouraged to leave
their school hats in the classroom so it’s always available
during the school day. To avoid lost hats, or children having
to spend the day inside, Funcare asks that you keep a second,
sun smart hat (which does not have to be uniform) in your
child’s school bag. This will allow school hats to be kept
safely in the classroom, and ensure your child has access to a
hat at Funcare.

Year 4s – Picasso Wire Faces
Year 4s looked at Picasso’s abstract paintings and then created
a wire sculpture of an abstract face. The first step was to draw
an oval shape on a piece of paper with a side profile of a face
through the middle. Students moulded wire over the top of
the lines and twisted the wire together to keep its shape. The
eyes, hair and eyebrows were created with rainbow and
coloured wire. Each face was connected with a neck (stand) to
hold up the sculpture

We are intending to run Seasons for Growth again next
year (2015) at Mont Albert Primary School. The dates are
yet to be decided, however possibly in Term 1 or 2. For
those who are not familiar with the program, it is designed
for children and young people who have experienced
significant change, loss and grief in relation to family
breakdown, separation, divorce or death of a significant
other. It is a selective program that caters for students in
Year 1 through to Year 6. Students are grouped according
to age and the material is age appropriate.
The Seasons for Growth Program consists of 8 sessions.
The sessions follow the cycle of the four seasons.
The program is run during the school day by trained staff
and has run at the school for ten years or so now, with
very positive outcomes. If you think your child could
benefit from such a program, please fill out the form
below and return it to me at school.
