PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE, ALONG THE WAY OF CHRIST
As Jesus called his disciples to follow him upon a new route, leaving behind their old lives and
turning to his way of loving service, let us offer our prayers to him for guidance, forgiveness
and healing; saying: Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus, you revealed your wisdom to simple fishermen, and sent upon them the Holy Spirit
to lead them into all truth: Continue to guide your church, that we may likewise follow you as
Master, Teacher and Friend. We pray for {Diocesan cycle of churches}, and for our Presiding
Bishop Katharine, our own bishop Wendell, our clergy Susan, Jim and Juan; and for our
Vestry, committee leaders, outreach ministries, volunteers and staff.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus, you were pleased to relax in the homes of your friends; we pray for the homes of
this congregation, where families rest and study, eat and pray. Bestow upon them an
atmosphere of Christian love and hospitality, so that all who enter may be blessed by your
presence. We pray especially for our {Parish cycle of families}; and for our loved ones
serving in the Military {names};
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus, physician of souls, grant to all who are sick your Spirit of healing and peace. We
pray for a treatment and for progress in the Ebola crisis. In our parish we pray especially for
{Immediate prayer concerns} and for those with long-term needs. And for healing for the
nations of the world, that divisions and bloodshed would cease, and reconciliation become
possible.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus, you taught your friends to pray and revealed your risen presence in the breaking of
bread. Bless all who minister at your altar through our worship ministries, serving visibly or
behind the scenes. Today we pray especially for Fr. Jim Maxwell as we celebrate his 50th year
of ordination. May we never forget your promise that you are with us in the sacraments.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus: the little girl on her death-bed, the young man on his funeral bier, and Lazarus three
days in the tomb, could all hear your voice. May each soul as it passes through death hear your
friendly voice, see the love in your eyes and the smile of welcome in your face, at the door of
your heavenly kingdom. {We remember especially}
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
The Celebrant adds a concluding prayer.
