Walter S. Owen and Douglas McK. Brown Visiting Chairs in Law
The Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia invites applications for
the Walter S. Owen and Douglas McK. Brown Visiting Chairs in Law for 2015/16.
The Visiting Chair program is intended to bring leading legal scholars from
around the world to UBC Law to participate in the intellectual life of the Faculty
and to contribute to our program of research and legal education.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Visiting Chairs are expected to deliver an intensive seminar
in the JD program and to give a presentation in one of the Faculty’s lecture
series. Applicants are encouraged as well to propose other activities to be
undertaken during their visit that engage UBC Law’s faculty and students and
contribute to the Faculty’s research culture. Applicants will be provided with
office space in Allard Hall and must be able to commit to being in residence at
the Faculty for a substantial period of time during the Fall or Spring term,
commensurate with the proposed course of teaching and activities, and ideally at
least two to three weeks.
Visiting Chairs will receive an honorarium of up to $10,000, with up to an
additional $5000 available to cover approved travel expenses and
accommodation.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Please send expressions of interest, including a
current C.V., a cover letter outlining intensive courses they would be prepared to
teach, proposed lecture topics, an outline of any additional activities they would
like to offer during their visit, and an indication of precise dates of availability
during the terms of the 2015/16 academic year, to Dean Mary Anne Bobinski.
