Topics will include making connections on campus, finding available resources, managing your time effectively, setting goals, exploring study habits and choosing courses. Choosing the Right Healthcare Career for You This 50 minute session will explore the different allied health programs offered at OCC, what career the programs lead to, and explores the details of the occupations. Degrees, Certificates, and Certificate of Achievements – What Does OCC Offer? This 50 minute session will explore the pattern OCC degrees follow, requirements for degree completion, and strategies into choosing a degree path. Choosing the Right Balance of Courses for Me This 50 minute session will explore how to choose the right balance of courses you take for each semester. Discussion of time, work outside of class, personal responsibilities, and concerns that may affect you as you choose how many courses to take each semester. What is Academic Standing at OCC? This 50 minute session will explore the level of achievements at OCC, how to maintain a 2.0 GPA and above, and learn how to become successful in order to improve your GPA. Career Cruising Matchmaker This 50 minute seminar will introduce students to Career Cruising and emphasize the Career Matchmaker assessment. Students will be asked to use the Career Matchmaker which involves answering questions about your likes and dislikes to find careers that match up with your interests. Students will then explore how their results fit with finding a career that they would be successful in and find personally fulfilling. The ABC’s of Transferring This 50 minute session will help students understand the steps involved in the transfer process. Topics discussed will include how and when to apply to a four-year college or university, as well as choosing a school based on location, major, cost, etc. Transferring? Don’t Forget to Pack Your Credits! This 50 minute session will help students understand how credits are transferred from OCC to 4-year colleges or universities, and how to make the most out of the credits they take. Topics will include the Michigan Transfer Network, MACRAO, transfer guides, and OCC degree programs. Graduating! Now what? Preparing for your Job Search This 90 minute seminar will review what a graduating or near-graduating student should focus on as they move from degree/certificate to employment. Topics to be covered will be graduation applications, writing resumes, cover letters, networking and interviewing. What Can I Do With This Degree? This 50 minute seminar will explore what types of jobs can be targeted in a job search with your specific degree program.
