THE exciting work of IDEAS schools from around Queensland, across Australia and Singapore was recently showcased in Toowoomba.
IDEAS (Innovative Designs for Enhancing Achievement in Schools), a school
improvement process, has developed during a six-year alliance between Education Queensland and the University of Southern Queensland.
The Toowoomba event was the 2005 IDEAS National Learning Forum, drawing 180 educators together to celebrate the work of IDEAS schools.
The primary focus of the forum was to showcase the work of Toowoomba
IDEAS schools, more particularly, how they are “actioning” their Vision and
Schoolwide Pedagogy within the school community.
Educators from Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales attended,
visiting showcase schools from the Toowoomba District as part of the professional learning and development experience.
To add an international flavour, 13 educators from Singaporean IDEAS
schools also participated, showcasing their work and celebrating the work of
our Queensland schools.
Newly engaged IDEAS schools and various experienced IDEAS schools from
across the state also shared their achievements.
The Learning Forum provided a wonderful opportunity for schools to celebrate their work in school improvement and revitalisation – promoting the
outstanding work of teachers, demonstrating the emerging alignment of processes within their schools and focusing on the development of school leadership.
This wonderful display of achievement and professional learning inspired
the participants and provided an outstanding model of a professional learning
community.
An opportunity for system capacity building for the expert and experienced
IDEAS Facilitation team was held in conjunction with the Learning Forum.
This program focused on developing the capacity of experienced IDEAS facilitators from across Queensland to support IDEAS schools in their work. Their
focus was on developing and extending skills and knowledge required for effective facilitation of Professional Conversation, exploring pedagogical direction and Leadership frameworks and working with IDEAS resources.
This also provided an occasion to celebrate the launch of the newly developed IDEAS website http://ideas.usq.edu.au
Visiting educators and other dignitaries commented on the vibrancy of
schools and their distinctive presentations.
Education Queensland and the University of Southern Queensland IDEAS
partnership congratulated the IDEAS school communities on making the event
a resounding success and ensuring the continued focus on quality outcomes
in Queensland schools.
