Halloween in Twelve Oaks - A dark and scary
night….
The TOCA Annual Membership meeting will be
held Tuesday, November 18 at the Morgan Woods
Park and Recreation building located on the
campus of Morgan Woods Elementary School.
The event begins at 7:00 P.M. allowing time for
residents and guests to enjoy the usual array of
good food, desserts, and drinks.
TOCA will collect donations of canned food items,
peanut butter, pasta, rice, tea, and coffee for the
Kaye Prox Food Bank at the meeting. The Food
Bank, located in Town ‘N Country, is an allvolunteer ecumenical organization dedicated to
providing emergency food to families in need, to
the elderly, and to the homeless in the community.
The Centers Stage Singers from Morgan Woods
Elementary School, under the direction of Tracy
Lisi, school music director, will provide
entertainment. A representative from Florida
Family Primary Care of Tampa, located on Hanley
Rd., will discuss services available at the clinic for
Medicare and Medicaid recipients. Doreen Clauer,
Neighborhood Watch Email Coordinator, has been
invited to be guest speaker. She will discuss crime
issues in our neighborhood and provide residents
with valuable security and safety information.
Agenda items will include the presentation of a
$300 check from TOCA to Jonathan Barlar,
Principal of Morgan Woods Elementary School.
This donation will make a total of $3,750 that
TOCA has donated to help fund various projects at
the school. Residents will also have the
opportunity to nominate and vote for 2015
Directors.
Drawings for door prizes will be held throughout the
evening. Minutes of the October 28 TOCA
business meeting and current treasurer’s report will
be available. TOCA meetings are open to all
residents – homeowners and renters.

Sunshine: Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2014
On this Veterans Day, our hearts are filled
with gratitude and respect for all the men and
women who have valiantly served in our
military. For your patriotism, your willingness
to serve, and the sacrifices you made for the
common good, we thank you. For those of
you with a little time to spare, consider
showing gratitude to veterans by visiting a
veterans hospital and raising the spirits of
those who have served our country.

News In Brief
Veterans Day Parade – Saturday, Nov. 9. – The purpose of this annual parade is to
honor and thank all US Military Veterans for their sacrifices, to promote patriotism in our
society, to perpetuate a positive image of the American veteran, and to foster pride in
service to our country. These are the men and women who have defended our nation in
good times and in bad. They answered the call and paid the price for freedom. We owe
our veterans a dept of gratitude that can never be repaid. ¶ The parade begins at 10 am
at Morgan Woods School on Armand Drive, travels north on Armand to Barry Rd., and
west to Hanley. The parade will proceed south on Hanley to Paula Drive. There will be
plenty of bands, floats, and clowns marching and strutting in the parade. Colonel Daniel
Tully, Commander, MacDill AFB and 6th Air Mobility Wing, is Grand Marshal. Retired
Navy Petty Officer First Class Artricia Herd is this year’s honoree. Enjoy the parade,
honor our country’s veterans, and then visit the carnival located on the campus of Webb
Middle School.
Volunteers: Residents are encouraged to consider volunteering as active members on
the 2015 TOCA Board. Serving on this Board entails spending 1 or 2 hours a month with
fellow residents trying to make a difference in our community. Elections will be held at
the November 18 TOCA meeting. Questions?? Contact any board member. Phone

Christmas Is Coming! – TOCA will distribute FREE LUMINARIES to all residents on
Saturday, December 20. Residents may pick up their luminaries between 10:00 A.M.
and 2:00 P.M. at the canal area on Overbrook Drive. Residents, new to our community,
who are not familiar with this tradition, should check next month’s issue (December) of
The Acorn for additional information and instructions.
Trees in Twelve Oaks: There are multiple locations throughout Twelve Oaks where
trees do not meet the minimum height requirement of 16 feet over the roadway. This
includes trees on easements and trees on personal property that have branches / limbs
that are hanging too low over the roadway. Garbage and recycle trucks hit branches that
are low causing damage to trees. NOTE: There must be at least an 8-foot clearance for
tree branches over a sidewalk. If you have a tree that has branches or limbs that are
“hanging too low” over the sidewalk or hanging too low over the street, please cut them
back.
Morgan Woods Elementary School – A special program honoring veterans, will take
place Thursday, Nov. 7 at 9:00 am. Twelve Oaks’ veterans are invited to attend. ¶
Community volunteers are needed for the Great American Teach-In Nov. 20.to teach
one or more classes in this community-wide effort to give individuals a taste of
teaching. You don't need teaching experience, just enthusiasm, and a desire to share
something with students about your career, experiences, or hobby. If you would like to

Town ‘N Country Garden Circle will meet Wednesday, November 5, at the Town ‘N
Country Recreation Center, 6029 Hanley Road, Tampa, (North side of Webb Middle
School) at 11:30 am. Following lunch, provided by Circle members and short meeting,
guest speakers from “Annie’s Garden Shed” will present a seasonal program on
Gardens for Christmas. The Garden Circle is focused on beautifying the community and
educating members. The meetings provide programs on flower arranging and valuable
information on growing Florida plants. Twelve Oaks gardeners, brown thumbs and

Visit the Town ‘N Country Library: Book discussions, English
conversational skills, computer classes, used book sales, activities
for toddlers, teens and adults, and more are offered at our local
library. (NOTE: The Library will be closed Nov. 11 for Veteran’s Day
and Nov. 27 & 28 for Thanksgiving.) ► Sahaja Meditation, a timehonored meditation technique, will be offered every Saturday at
10:30. ► Adult English learners are encouraged to read a different
book each month and discuss it in English at the Library. The
Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes will be discussed Nov. 10 at
11:00. Copies of the book are available at the library.
► “Supermarket Gardening For A Second Harvest” will be the topic
of discussion at the Master Gardener Program Thursday, Nov. 13 at
6:30 pm. Participants will earn how to get more out of their grocery
purchases and how to plant and grow vegetables after using them in
the kitchen. ► Nov. 18 at 3:45 Wimps rule! Games and more
wimpy fun are planned for children in grades 3 thru 6 to celebrate the
release of the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. ►”Tellabration” is
scheduled for Nov.20 at 6:30. School-age storytellers will perform
traditional tales under the direction of Tamara Green. Enjoy the
stories and learn about the 2015 Hillsborough County Storytelling
Festival. ► “Exposing The Hidden Job Market”, a special program
for adults, will take place Nov. 22 at 2:00. Many of today’s available
jobs are hidden from plain view and unless career searchers learn
about the new way to job hunt, they'll be left out in the cold. Abby
Kohut, a seasoned recruiter, will teach how easy it is to uncover the
hidden job market. Topics include: Why the job market is hidden in
the first place, three ways to hobnob with CTOs, CFOs and other Csuite members, how working for free can be the best idea ever, how
to solve problems, and ways to use social media to generate
opportunities. ►The Friends of the Town 'N Country Regional
Library Bargain Street Book Store is open at all times that the Library
is open with books at bargain prices. For information on these and
other library programs and activities visit the Town ‘N Country

The Town 'N Country Senior Center provides stimulating activities,
health and wellness, educational programs, opportunities for
socialization and nutritious meals in an enriched environment for
active adults and senior citizens. The Center, located on the first
floor of the Town ‘N Country Library, is open Monday through Friday
from 8 am to 5 pm. (NOTE: The Center will be closed Nov. 11 for
Veteran’s Day and Nov. 27 & 28 for Thanksgiving.) Seniors can
learn about Medicare, how to manage prescriptions, and the
importance of having blood pressure checks. All are part of the
center's mission to focus on active adults and healthy living. ¶Yoga,
Tai Chi, and exercise classes including walking exercise, cardio
fitness, weight training, and dance classes (including Ballroom
Dance) are offered. Guests can work out in classes or alone in the
fitness center, watch movies, or participate in classes including
jewelry making, quilting, crochet, painting, and acoustic guitar.
Conversational Spanish, French, and English Language study
classes are offered. Seniors also enjoy playing games including
Ping Pong, bridge, bingo, mahjongg, pinochle, and canasta. The
Center is part of the Computers for Seniors Program. There are
computers available for use and the Center provides computer
training to seniors.

Town ’N Country Youth Council will meet Sun., Nov. 2 from 2 3:30 at the Town ‘N Country Regional Library. Activities for
November include participating in the Veteran’s Day Parade and
volunteering at the Twelve Oaks Dumpster Day Cleanup and with
TnC Garden Circle projects during Thanksgiving break. The YC
provides community service hours to teens for college scholarships
and National Honor Society membership. The YC is part of
Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation, and Conservation
Department and is open to all Town ‘N Country (including Twelve
Oaks) teens ages 12-17 who are attending school. For additional
information about the Youth Council or to request a membership
application contact Sherry Vennett at 624-2753.
A “Free” Teen Center & Gym is open at the Jackson Springs
Recreation Center, 8620 Jackson Springs Road. Twelve Oaks
teens, 13 – 17 years old, can enjoy participating in sports activities,
video games, table games, computers, music, cooking classes, life
skills classes, weight training, and more. Special sports activities
include Co-ed Indoor Arena League Flag Football, Co-ed Basketball,
and Co-ed Dodge Ball. ¶The Northwest (Town ‘N Country) Skate
Park is located in front of the Jackson Springs Recreation Center.
The skate park features a street and transition course that caters to
all styles of skateboarding. It is free of charge; however waivers
must be signed and notarized. Helmets are mandatory for all ages,
including adults. Children twelve and under must wear full knee and
elbow pads. Helmets and pads are provided on a first come first
serve basis. The skate park is open Tuesday through Thursday from
2:00 to 9:00 pm, Friday from 2:00 to 10:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00
am to 10:00 pm, and Sunday from noon to 8:00 pm. The park is
closed on Mondays. (NOTE: All County Recreation Centers and
Skate Parks will be closed Nov. 11 for Veteran’s Day and Nov. 27 &
28 for Thanksgiving.) For information about the Teen Center and

Time To Change The Clocks ― Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00
am on the first Sunday in November. Don’t forget to “fall back”
on November 2.

Do you hear late night music (deep bass thump, thump sounds)
coming from the Green Gator on Anderson Road? Residents, who
hear the late night constant boom / thump, are urged to call the
Sheriff’s non-emergency number (#247-8200) and register a
complaint. NOTE: You MUST give your name when registering a
complaint; however, you can request to remain anonymous. That
gives the Sheriff’s Dept. the authority to approach and contact the
offender and to take the appropriate action. If you call and refuse to
give your name the call will not be considered a priority and only an
alert will be sent to deputies on duty. The next day, take the time to
call Joan Hallgren at Hillsborough County EPC at 627-2600 Ext
1331 or e-mail her at hallgrenj@epchc.org and report the time that
you heard the noise. TOSD is working with the EPC and the
Sheriff’s Dept. to get this annoyance stopped.
