To participate, employees must complete and return an enrollment form, which was sent via e-mail last week. The form can also be obtained from the Human Resources Department. Forms must be returned to HR by Dec. 5. Memberships will automatically renew for employees who are already enrolled in the program. If you are a AAA member directly through AAA, you can join the SOMC AAA program and your dues will be pro-rated, you will receive a discount upon renewal, and your dues will be annually automatically payroll deducted. Emergency Preparedness Information Questionnaire SOMC nurses are being asked to assess their readiness to respond to emergency events by completing a survey concerning their own perception of emergency preparedness. The survey allows nurses to rate their familiarity with topics addressing emergency preparedness on a continuum topics. The survey is part of a DNP capstone project being completed by Angela Hodge, clinical coordinator of the SOMC Emergency Department. The survey is anonymous and was made available to SOMC RNs and LPNs via e-mail Nov. 1. We hope to meet a 50 percent participation goal, so all nurses are encouraged to complete the survey. Staff members who received an exemption last year are required to provide an exemption for this year. Employees who do not receive the vaccine or fail to provide an approved exemption by the deadline will be removed from the schedule until they do one of the two. Failure to meet the deadline will also result in ineligibility for the annual base pay increase and bonus. Flu vaccines are available through your department’s flu vaccine administrator, or from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Employee Health & Wellness Office (Suite 307A of the Waller Building. Please note that the EH&W Office will be closed Nov. 27, 28, 29 and 30. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the flu vaccine program, please call ext. 8742. Healthy Partners Direct-Deposit Bonus for 2014 Healthy Partners members are reminded that their Healthy Partners bonus for 2014 will be direct deposited on Thursday, Dec. 4. This is a separate direct deposit from your regular paycheck, and should be available in your bank account by Dec. 8. Because of the overwhelming commitment that SOMC and our employees have made toward living healthier lifestyles, more than $244,000 in bonus money is being awarded to our Healthy Partner participants for 2014. Employees looking to tackle a new sport for their weight-loss goals are encouraged to try Pickleball at 10 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 7 p.m. Tuesdays; and 8 a.m. Saturdays at the Portsmouth LIFE Center. Participants may also so Pickleball any time the gym is open. Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines tennis, ping-pong and badminton in a workout for all ages and skill levels.
