December meetings
There won’t be any business meetings in
December. Instead, we are having a countywide potluck.
Details are listed to the right.
Text Messaging via Remind.com
This year, we will be using the Remind.com software to send out text
message reminders.
To sign up to receive text messages this year, text the message

We promise not to overwhelm you with text messages. We will use
them for meeting reminders and any important reminders, such as
livestock validation dates/deadlines, major project or contest entry
deadlines, project kick-off events, etc..

3. Enter sizes and quantities for each item, and then click “Add to Cart”
4. Check your selections and make any necessary corrections. No changes

7. Verify that your order is correct. No changes may be made once your order is placed. Read our Terms and Conditions. Check the box next to “Yes, I

These teams recently competed in the County Food Challenge and
will be advancing to the District Food Challenge in Belton on

Record Books
Start recording information and taking pictures for your record book.
Be sure to document your project well, whether it be an animal project, food and nutrition, etc. You’ll need community service and leadership too! So volunteer to lead the pledge, set up for a 4-H club or
project meeting or coordinate a community service project. Call us if
you have questions.

Updates
Youth Fair Food, Clothing and Craft Entries
Entry forms and fees are due by December 10th online. Craft and clothing entries may be checked in between 5 & 8 pm on January 9th or between 7 & 8:30 am on January 10th. Food entries must be checked in
between 7 & 8:30 am on January 9th. For more information you can contact our office or visit
www.somervellcountyyouthfair.com, there you can enter online and view the rules and guidelines.
Consumer Decision Making
This is a great contest that teaches participants how to make good purchasing decisions and to evaluate products based on quality and situations presented. If you are interested in this contest, we will start practice in
January. If you are a senior, this is also one that you can advance to state in.

Sporting Clays Fundraiser
The date has been booked for February 21st! We have
lots of planning to do and need all the help we can get.
We will need volunteers to help organize the event as
well as people to help work the day of the event and
even someone to make desserts for lunch that day.
Please contact Mark Ochoa or Sonja Mausser if you can
help.
If you have specific questions regarding your project
practice, please call your coach! We have lots of new
things going on in the Shooting Sports Club. If you
want to get involved let us know!

Entry Deadlines
Somervell County Youth Fair: ALL entries will be done online!
Entries are due online by December 10th. Click here to visit the

Broiler Orders
Broilers have been ordered and will
be available for pickup at our office
on December 3rd from 5-7 pm. If
you ordered broilers we will be calling you. Don’t forget about your
birds!
Dinosaur Valley Jackpot Show
FFA Lamb, Pig, and Goat show at the Expo. Books open Saturday, Dec. 13 @ 7AM.
Show 10AM-4PM. Spectator admission is FREE.

LIVESTOCK UPDATES
4-H Scales & Clippers
The 4-H program has scales to weigh your animals and clippers to
clip them, also. If you would like to use these items, you may
check them out from the office. We ask that you return them in 2
days so the next person can use them. There will be a $10 refundable deposit and a $10 rental fee in order to rent the clippers.
Photos
Be sure to take pictures of you and your project and/or team practicing or competing. Send them to us and we’ll put them on our
webpage. This will allow us to let the community know what we’re
up to, and you’ll have great pictures for your Record Book!
Exhibitor Cards
We have exhibitor cards for your livestock
show pens. If you want one come by the office
and we’ll get you set up!
If you have questions or need any help with your livestock project, please let me know!! I
have spoken with the Ag agents in Hood, Erath, & Johnson Counties. All of them have been
very willing to provide assistance and advice. We also have plenty of knowledge and help here
locally. Email or call me if you need anything!
The Extension office will be closed December 24th-26th, 2014 in honor
of the Christmas holiday. This year, we are especially thankful for the
wonderful 4-H families we work with every day. Please, please be safe
this holiday season. Come back ready to go for an awesome 2015 Youth

January 8-10th - Youth Fair
Extra-Curricular Activities & 4-H Eligibility
As an educational agency, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service supports the Texas Education code
and academic responsibility of student 4-H members. The Extension sponsored 4-H youth programs must
comply with provisions of the Texas Educational Code in order for the 4-H program to maintain status of an
extracurricular organization.
When 4-H members participate in competitive events or when a member is participating in any 4- H
event that will require him/her to be absent from school, the Extension Agent must submit a written
request to the appropriate school official prior to the activity. The school will determine if the students
are eligible for participation and notify the agent. If parents have any questions they should contact the
school administration. 6th Annual Ellis County 4-H
Open Invitational Archery Tournament

Registration Fee: $20 ($30 non 4-H members)
Registration Deadline: Feb.15th, 2015
Check In: 8am for first flight (start time 9am)
12pm for second flight (start time 1pm)
4-H Indoor FITA Archery rules apply. Ages are by 4-H age, as of August 31, 2014. Space is
limited to 100 participants. Spaces will be filled as entries are received. If entries arrive and
there are no spaces available, they will be contacted and their entry will be returned.
Juniors: 10 Yard targets
Intermediates: 10 Yard targets
Seniors: 20 Yard targets
20 ends of 3 arrows at 10 or 20 yards.
Equipment will be checked at the door. Please have all arrows and bows marked clearly with
your initials. Arrive early to check in. A mandatory orientation session will start at 8:50am for
first flight and 12:50pm for second flight to cover all the rules and procedures. A short break
will be taken between the 10th and 11th ends.
Please note there will be no sky drawing, (as per 4-H and FITA rules), long hair must be tied
back, no open-toed shoes such as flip-flops, sandals, Crocs, etc. To minimize confusion, only
coaches will be allowed down-range during scoring. Only shooters will be allowed in the contestant seating,
Aconcessionstandwillbeavailablethroughouttheday.
