A PASTOR’S REFLECTION
Last Sunday all of our Advent Giving Tree Gifts were whisked off
to the children of Marygrove Children’s Home and our parish St.
Vincent de Paul Society. On behalf of all those special children
and families in need, I say thank you for taking the time to purchase a gift or gift card. If Christmas is about giving – you chose
to give to someone less fortunate and make their Christmas very
special. Others decided to personally give us money to get to
someone in need. These gifts also made a big difference for a
number of families who are feeling the loss of a job. Thank you.
I also thank the St. Vincent de Paul Society and our rectory staff
that helped to make our Advent Giving Tree a success this year.
All this is in the true spirit of Christmas where others come first!
The Season of Advent is now coming to a close and we welcome this glorious Season of Christmas. We are about as prepared as we are going to be and Jesus says, “Open your heart
to me. Allow me to come into your very hearts, so that my Sacred Heart may be one with your human heart.” The Blessed
Mother says, “Yes, let your will be done unto me.” And now is
your chance to say “yes” to all that God is and all that He wants
for you. To follow Jesus is to want His will to be done in me.
Christmas is a time for us to welcome many family members,
friends and neighbors that come to worship with us. Please
know that we extend our warmest welcome to all of you who join
us for Christmas Masses. If you find that you are at home
in our Church and with our worship, just know that we would
love to have you join us. Just make it a priority to come back.
Jesus is waiting for you…and so are we.
During Christmas we will have time to be with our families and
friends. Let me remind you that we need to remember this simple fact: we are loved. Every person here is loved by
God. Some might say, “I have been away from Church and
have not made much time for God. I am busy with the family,
with work, and with a thousand other excuses for not worshipping with the community.” And the Lord says, “I love you. Let
me into you life, and I will always make time for you.” God is so
generous and good.
And there are some who say, “There are things that I have done,
or am currently doing where I know that God is not present. How can He still love me?” And God says, “I can and do
love you because I see who you are capable of being. I absolutely refuse to give up on you. Stop giving up on yourself. I
want you at peace with life, and at peace with yourself. Come
home to me and accept forgiveness.”
In advance we thank all those who helped to beautify our
Church for Christmas. It takes a lot of work and many
hands to decorate. This year we also thank those who generously supported the cost of our flowers. And be ready, for St.
Nicholas (Santa Claus) may stop in Church to pray at the manger, as he has done in past years.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
CHRISTMAS 2014
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Rejoice! The weeks of Advent waiting are over, and Christ is
born!
We rejoice in our Savior’s birth—remembering the great gift
of faith He has given us through the mystery of His incarnation and the saving power of His death and resurrection.
Each year, the people of our archdiocese have been asked
to make a special gift on Christmas Day to support our seminarians at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. The men of our seminary, who have responded to Christ's call to follow Him, are
truly a gift to the Church and to the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
It is these men who will bring the faith given to us by Christ
2000 years ago to future generations here in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
I ask you, once again, to pray for vocations and for all our
priests and seminarians. I also ask you to be generous in
your donation to the Christmas Day collection, which helps
pay the day-to-day expenses and maintenance of our seminary.
Please be assured of my prayers for you during the season
of Christmas. May the Lord of life come into your hearts and
homes in a special way during this holy time of year.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
DECEMBER 21, 2014

ALIVE IN CHRIST SCHOLARSHIP
The "Alive in Christ!" Scholarship Program is part of Archbishop Robert J. Carlson's strategic plan for Catholic Education in
the Archdiocese of St. Louis. In an effort to promote active recruitment and increased enrollment of children in Catholic elementary schools, the “Alive in Christ!” Scholarship Program
seeks to provide financial assistance to those families (both
Catholic and Non-Catholic) who wish to offer their children an
education at a Catholic elementary school in the archdiocese. Scholarship awards are based upon financial need of the
applicant and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
Applications are available at http://archstl.org/files/field-file/
AIC%20Application%202014-15_1.pdf.
Please return the completed application with your 2013 Federal Tax Returns (Form 1040, just the first two pages) and proof
of any other social service income.
For families currently receiving the Alive in Christ Scholarship: Previously Awarded families are required to re-qualify
annually to maintain their scholarship. The scholarship program currently launching for the 2014-15 school year is not for
those students who already receive an Alive in Christ scholarship. It is for new applicants ONLY. Currently awarded scholarship students do not have to submit any paperwork until
Requalification paperwork is sent out in early April (this will be
mailed directly).
RECOMMENDED HOLIDAY VIEWING
Take a moment to sit back, put up your feet, and enjoy The
Forsaken on Tuesday, December 30 on EWTN at 5:30 p.m.
This thirty minute documentary, featuring the Archdiocese of
St. Louis mission program Pan y Amor, will open your eyes to
the lives of children who have been rescued from living on the
streets of Cochabamba and La Paz, Bolivia. Prior to being rescued, these children barely survived and often went to sleep
hungry and on the streets. Emmy award winner Chuck Neff
does an extraordinary job of capturing the struggles of these
innocent children and their quest for a brighter future. This is a
show you don’t want to miss!!
Our North County Catholic
Schools are Filled with Advent
and Christmas Blessings!
Our Catholic Schools have so much to offer our
students and community, and that is especially
evident at this time of year. Students at each school
in the Federation have spent the season of Advent in
preparation for our celebration of Jesus’ birth. They
have held food drives, “adopted” families in need with
Christmas gifts, made Jesse Trees and Advent
Wreaths,
experienced
the
sacraments
of
Reconciliation and Eucharist, and had many other
opportunities to further develop their own personal
relationships with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
This environment of spirit and prayer in our schools
exists throughout the year as students, teachers and
parents demonstrate what it means to be
communities Alive in Christ!
The collaborative efforts of the Northeast
Deanery schools and parishes will continue in the
new year. We invite you to help us spread the good
news about our local Catholic schools by joining
us (and inviting a friend or neighbor) for an Open
House:
