SUNDAY READINGS
1st Reading: 2 Samuel 7: 1-5. 8-11.16
‘Unless the Lord build the house ’ So begins the story of how Israel
settled down and the king began a permanent site for God’s presence
among them. But the prophet reminds David that God is never captured
in buildings but is always revealed in history, in flesh and blood form, in
the stories of liberation.
Psalm Response
I will sing forever of your love, O Lord.
2nd Reading: Romans 16: 25-27
Paul’s letter to the Romans proclaims an insight many of his fellow
Christians found difficult to accept: it was God’s eternal plan that Jesus
Christ be proclaimed to all Peoples, not just to the Israelites. God’s
wisdom became clear to the Church only through argument, struggle,
disagreement.
Gospel: Luke 1: 26-38
Look how the gospel says Mary is like every other disciple. Mary reacts
to God’s word in her life first with fear and doubt, which only gradually are
transformed into faith. This journey from fear to faith, from doubt to trust
is the ageless story of discipleship, the story of our experience of God,
the story of how God’s love is make flesh in every generation.
