ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

BOOKS & GIFTS
Fr. Lankeit's book-of-the-month for December!
“The Parish as a School of Prayer”
In Father Scott Traynor's book, Blessed John Paul II's
memorable call to make of the parish a "school" of
prayer takes on flesh and becomes concretely
attainable. Those who read these faith-filled pages will
find renewed desire to create such parishes and a clear
road-map toward this goal.
- Father Timothy Gallagher, OMV
The gift shop has spiritual resources and items for your
gift-giving needs. Come in for Catholic books, rosaries,
crucifixes, candles and a nice selection of religious
articles. There are new arrivals coming in daily so stop
by and pick up that special gift for that special person.
A special thanks to our volunteers who keep the gift
shop running smoothly!
O Come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord!
Come to our beautiful, silent, and peaceful
adoration chapel and adore Him! Sit with Him!
Pray to Him! Listen to Him! Be with our Lord
during this Christmas season, and throughout
the new year. All you have to do is call our parish
office to schedule your holy hour today.
Here are the hours we are in most need of help:
Sundays: 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m.
Mondays: 10:00a.m.-11:00a.m.
Tuesdays: 1:00a.m.-2:00a.m.
Thursdays: 6:00a.m.-7:00a.m.
10:00 p.m.- 11:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 1:00a.m.-2:00a.m.
We could also use substitutes during the
early hours of the morning, between midnight and
3:00a.m. This would be on an as needed basis.
Have a blessed and merry Christmas!

BYRD’S GRADUALIA
FOR THE EPIPHANY
JANUARY 6, 2015 7PM
On January 6th the Cathedral Choir will
present a Mass at 7pm that will feature
Byrd’s Gradualia (II) for the Mass of the
Epiphany.
William Byrd, a Catholic composer in England during the
prosecution of Catholics, wrote a wealth of polyphonic
propers. These pieces are too difficult to be sung by
almost any choir only a regular basis, but beautifully
illuminate the text of the Introit, Offertory, and
Communion antiphons of the Mass.
The choir will also sing Christmas Motets and the
Ordinary of the Mass will be Hans Leo Hassler’s Missa
super Dixit Maria.
We hope to see you at this special
one-of-a-kind event!
Invite your family and friends
and be sure to mark your calendars.
A collection will be taken after the January 6th Mass to
support sacred music at the Cathedral.

CATHEDRAL SCHOOL
TUITION TAX CREDIT
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Now's the time to start thinking about taking advantage
of the opportunity provided to you by the State of Arizona
to redirect your tax dollars and help students right here at
SSJ!
How do you know if you pay state income taxes?
Everyone pays state income taxes unless you are taking a
loss or don’t have earned income. Even if you receive a
refund you are paying state income taxes! Take a look at
your last year’s tax return to determine how much you
pay in state income taxes. This will give you an idea of
the amount you can give this year.
Any amount under the current maximums will receive a
dollar for dollar state income tax credit. The maximum
contribution for single filers is $1,053 and for married
couples is $2,106 if you contribute before 12/31/2014.
Making your contribution by December 31, 2014 allows
you to take both the state credit as well as receive a
charitable deduction on your federal tax return in 2014.
Still confused? Follows these three easy steps:
STEP ONE - Make a contribution to Catholic Education
Arizona by December 31st.
STEP TWO - Catholic Education Arizona will send you a
receipt by January 31, 2015.
STEP THREE - You take the credit by indicating the
amount you gave on AZ State tax forms 323 and 348 and
submit them to the state when you file your return.
The easiest way to make your contribution is by logging
on to www.catholiceducationarizona.org. Visit this site
before the end of the year and help keep our students at
SSJ who very much need financial assistance.
For more information, please call Mary Jo in the School
Development Office at 602-242-1299, extension 149.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
Imagine how Mary felt at the birth of Jesus:
excited, awed frightened. Deep faith was
her light in the darkness, for Jesus was born
during the darkest night of the year. In
faith is found the real, lasting light and the
deep joy of Christmas.
Because of your generosity, the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul will be giving out about 150 or more Christmas
dinners...turkeys and all the trimmings; plus, we will be
adding toys and presents for the children. This is
especially a wonderful time of year for giving the love of
the lord and the joy of Jesus. Please remember to
continue to bring your bags of food with you to church
and place them in the SVDP food boxes in the rear of the
church. The poor continue to be in need.
Tax credit:
your Arizona tax dollars can make a big
difference to our ss. Simon and Jude St. Vincent de Paul
conference. Now is the time to make a dollar-for-dollar
charitable donation and receive up to $400, or $200 if
you are filing a single return. Your check can be made
out to St. Vincent de Paul society SS. Simon and Jude.
Remember, this donation is different from the school tax
credit so you may make a contribution to both. AZ tax
credit form is needed to complete the tax credit.
YOUR CHRISTMAS OFFERING
Christmas Offering envelopes are available
in the pews and at the entrances of the
church. Be sure to pick one up and return
it with your offering in the Sunday
collection or drop it off in the parish office.
any time before Christmas...on Christmas… or
after Christmas.
For those of you who regularly give online, there is a
“Christmas Offering” option online that you can click to
make your gift.
The Christmas giving is very important to the overall
budget of the parish, so your generosity is very much
appreciated.

SAN VICENTE DE PAUL
Imagínese cómo se sintió María en el
nacimiento de Jesús: emocionada,
asombrada y asustada.
