Haso Thadani 2 The Bulletin of the Rotary Club of Bombay | www.rotaryclubofbombay.org December 30, 2014 to January 5, 2015 Bhavishya Yaan Christmas Party at CCI T he annual Christmas Party for the students of Bhavishya Yaan Schools was organised by the Cricket Club of India (CCI) this year, and saw participation from more than 310 children. The party was held on the CCI lawns on Tuesday, December 23 in the morning. The lawns were adorned with colourful Christmas decorations and stalls were set up across the area in order to keep the students occupied through the course of the party. For the children's entertainment, adventure rides and games such as Bouncy Castle, Zorbing, Bungee Jumping, Aqua Boat, Santa in the Basket, and other activities like face painting, hair braiding, and glitter tattoos were arranged. The students were accompanied by teachers and volunteers at all times in order to ensure their safety. The kids enjoyed the activities, games and snacks provided by CCI. They had a gala time and each of them was provided with a gift bag. The event was sponsored by Rtn. Suresh Agarwal. More than 24 stalls providing various medical services like thyroid levels test, blood test, ECG, Mammography, Sujok Acupressure were installed. The visiting member/citizen could avail of all the services in one visit. Rotary Club of Bombay and the Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute were on stall number 10. The main aim of putting up this stall was to offer free medical services to those in need while spreading awareness about yoga therapy. The first day of the camp started with an inauguration ceremony by D.G. Ajay Gupta in presence of the Chief Guest, Additional Commissioner of Police, R.D. Shinde. Mr. Shinde visited the Club's stall and was impressed with the work done by Kaivalydhama for people. After the inauguration, the Chief guest, the President and the head of the event from the Club, Rtn. Dr. Rajendra Aggrwal, Rtn. Arjun Mudda and a few other members visited each and every stall. They visited the Club's stall and were happy to know about the Institute and other yoga-related work done by them. A short skit was then performed by the students of Kaivalyadhama explaining the importance of yoga. There were a lot of patients coming in and visiting the stalls. At the Club's stall, the patients were first checked by the doctors and then the yoga teachers taught them practices beneficial to their health problems. A total of 170 people had visited the stall at the end of the third day. The entire camp was a huge success and the visitors went home smiling. The certificates of students who participated in the skit were distributed by the Assistant Director of Kaivalydhama, Dr. G.P. Shukla, on December 15. The event was supported and coordinated by Rtn. Sitaram Shah of the Rotary Club of Bombay and Kaivailydham Trust Board supervised by Dr. Nutan Pakhare (PRO and Medical Consultant at Kaivalydhama). The members of the Rotary Club of Bombay expressed their wish of more such camps to be organised that serve people in need and the Kaivalydhama Yoga Institute is sure to be a part of it. Nirav Shah at the stall The medical check-ups and yoga practice on the second day Pink Flamingo Field Trip cum Fellowship The Environment Committee of the Rotary Club of Bombay is organising a Field Trip cum Fellowship event on February 2 (World Wetlands Day) between 1.30 pm and 6.30 pm. The trip would include watching pink flamingos that migrate to the wetlands of Navi Mumbai. An award-winning naturalist will give the group a guided tour of the mangroves, mud flats and treat Rotarians to some rare bird-watching. After this, a 10 minute film on the importance of wetlands will be screened at the Seawoods Complex Club House, Navi Mumbai followed by high tea hosted by Dr. Anjali Parasnis, a renowned scientist who heads the Mumbai operations of TERI, the environment consultancy headed by Dr. Rajendra Pachauri (who won the Nobel prize as the Chairman of IPCC). His career began with the Tata Group and he later moved to an international law firm in Bangalore. He has served society in numerous different ways. One of his many roles is counselling and guiding students in the area of leadership, overcoming failures, and managing stress at various colleges such as IISC, Bangalore; BITS Pilani, Goa; Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies and Sydenham Institute of Management Studies. He also conducts courses for Management students based on the learnings from the Ramayana.
