PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
“To strive together to be Christ for each other and our neighbor.”
Dear Faithful of St. John Neumann,
The Holy Family faced struggles such as their
poverty and lack of human shelter at Jesus’ birth,
they were displaced from home while in Egypt,
and they endured losses such as (tradition says)
the early death of St. Joseph. Our families may
have different experiences, but we are not exempt
from struggles, losses, and displacement. On this,
the Feast of the Holy Family, we look to Joseph,
Mary, and Jesus as exemplars of familial love.

SJN School Update
Addition to our school: Fall, 2015, we are adding a
three year old program to our school. It will be the first
year, so we will only have one class. Before we open
the enrollment to the public, we want to give parishioners the opportunity to have your child join us. The child
must be 3 years old on or before September 1, and must
be potty trained. The class is already over half filled
from the families in our school. If you are interested,
please call the school. We would love to give you a tour
of our school and answer any questions.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter
The search is on. The Fifth Annual Longest Married
Couple Project has started. If you know a couple with a
long marriage, please nominate them for this honor.
This annual search is sponsored by Worldwide Marriage
Encounter. More information can be found at wwme.org.
as well as a Marriage Encounter weekend near you.
SJN School Strategic Growth Plan Survey
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU
Beginning September 2014, the Diocese of Charleston entered into a yearlong effort to establish a Strategic Growth
Plan to revitalize and strengthen the Catholic schools in the
Diocese. Envisioned by Bishop Guglielmone, the strategic
planning process is being facilitated by Dr. Regina Haney
of the National Catholic Educational Associate and Dr. Erik
Goldschmidt of the Institute of School & Parish Development (ISPD).
From the Crisis/Outreach Ministry
The Strategic Growth Plan will be formulated around four
key planning areas related to Catholic schools: (1) Mission
and Catholic Identity; (2) Academic Excellence; (3) Governance and Leadership; and (4) Operational Vitality.
The facilitators of the Strategic Growth Planning process
are seeking to learn about public perceptions of Catholic
schools in the Diocese of Charleston. I invite you to complete a brief online survey. Your thoughtful input will invaluably enrich and inform the planning process and thus
help to ensure a vital future for the Catholic schools in the
Diocese of Charleston.
The survey will close at midnight on January 4, 2015.
The survey can be found at http://sccatholic.org/schoolsurvey
Adult Bible Study
Adult Bible Study will begin on Wednesday, January 7,
2015. The meeting time is 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. in Classroom
17 behind the school library. We will cover the Acts of the
Apostles, chapters 11 – 28. For more information, please
call Ron or Ruth Falter at 782-1471.
RESOLUTION FOR 2015:
Do you want to resolve to strengthen your faith in 2015?
You may want to consider meeting with fellow parishioners on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in Gillin Hall
share insights and questions about Scripture, pray for
needs you and/or your loved ones have, for needs of the
parish, and for needs of the world, and sing songs of
praise to God. There is no membership; come once or
come often.
You, the parishioners of St. John
Neumann, never fail to amaze!
You were asked to help out with
gifts from the Giving Trees, and
you were most generous. You
even brought gifts that were not requested! Every gift,
you can be sure, was distributed to the needy of our
community.
Thanks to the generous parishioners of St. John Neumann, carloads of gifts, food, and personal items were
delivered to the Women’s Shelter, Providence Men’s
Home, Free Medical Clinic, Catholic Charities,
Oliver Gospel Mission, Hispanic Ministry, and God’s
Storehouse. A few days before Christmas, the families
that were adopted from the SJN Hispanic Ministry, the
parish request families, Midlands Center, and a few
other families in need had children’s gifts delivered to
them. Your gifts gave the recipients new hope for the
future, and was a sign of the love and support the Christian community has to offer.
Summarizing in numbers, 315 children from 127 families received gifts, and 25 individuals from Midlands
Center received two gifts each. Individual gifts (white
tags) numbered over 700! There were also hundreds of
gifts given to the agencies that help the homeless and
needy of our community. In addition, generous parishioners donated checks and gift certificates that will enable the Crisis Ministry and other agencies to continue
assisting families with food, utilities, and shelter.
May God bless all of you, and grant you a happy and
healthy New Year!
Special thanks to Jim Gaebel, Judy Shaurette, Sandy
and David Hitchcock, Rita Bonifas, Jim and Maggie
Brown, Mary Brown, Cathy and Vincent Schachner,
Pat and Butch Parent, Mary Dick, Debbie Link, Kathy
and Stan Richards, Susanna Pasicatan, Colleen Coco,
Colleen Corbin, Betsy Schneider, Betty Richitelli,
Jody Gray-Beverage, Polly Ludden, Pam Commins,
Betty Budry, Silvia Goodman, Patty Donohue, Linnie
and Roger Catarino, Ruth Falter, Marianne Kochanski,
and John and Mary Menkhaus.
Thanks to Hector Morales and Rosa Rivera who coordinated the Hispanic requests and arranged for the pickup
of the large bags of gifts.
Since checks are still coming in, we will have a complete list of the check donations at a later date.
May God bless all of your for your generosity.
