St. Rose of Lima Parish Parroquia Santa Rosa de Lima In Christ, We are Bread for one another: Broken… we gather. Nourished… we reach out. ………………….....……………………………. En Cristo, Somos Pan para cada uno: Lo Dividimos… Nos Juntamos. Alimentados… tendemos la mano. Moving On in Faith January 11, 2015 BAPTISM OF THE LORD With the Bap sm of the Lord, Christmas comes to a close. If we stay in Bethlehem, we’ll find ourselves all alone. The shepherds went back to their work in the fields. The Wise Men went back to their du es. Our Blessed Mother Mary and St. Joseph le for Nazareth and Jesus went with them. Today, we see the adult Jesus at the Jordan River beginning the public teaching, healing, forgiving, finding and repairing He was born to do. When He was growing up, He saw people get drunk, cheat, lie, fight, be unfaithful to their spouses, and mostly be concerned about physical survival and materialism. Jesus He saw it all and came forward to immerse Himself in the Jordan River, joining the people, to commence the work of redemp on. Tomorrow we return to what Liturgy calls "Ordinary Time," where we live, grow and die, filled with reality, that of sin and also grace. When we entered church today, hopefully we blessed ourselves with holy water to thankfully recall and willingly renew and review our bap smal commitments. The bap smal font is where we were born to new life in Christ, Original Sin was cleansed, Church membership commenced and we became daughters and sons of God. The purpose of the Sacrament of Bap sm is to send us to be light to others. That first gi of grace is very fragile. It needs to be strengthened by Confirma on, the Eucharist, Confession, and maybe Holy Orders or Marriage. The place where we become saints, develop spiritual strength and make a Chris an impact is not at the bap smal font, but in the years that follow. The saving power of Christ's love can be seen in us whenever we resist evil, uphold truth, defend human life, bear adversity pa ently, promote peace, spotlight injus ce and reach out to those on the margins of society. For that, our world needs strong Chris an adults willingly firm in faith, clear in values, loving in the Lord, powered by grace, ac ve in mission, consistent in pa ence and sturdy in hope. This begins at the font, but becomes stronger as we come to Mass weekly or even daily, receive the Sacraments frequently, are constant in prayer and learn how to give witness to their faith. Bap sm is not a private transac on between the Lord and us – it gives us a mission to con nue the work of Christ “To open the eyes of the blind, to release prisoners and from the dungeon those who live in darkness.” In other words, fidelity to our faith is both a private and a public responsibility; it is what we owe our Church and our world. It is how we help make the promise of Christmas come true in "Ordinary Time." 11701 Clopper Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20878-1024 PHONE: 301-948-7545 FAX: 301-869-2170 EMERGENCIES (A er Hours): 301-355-8191 CANCELLATION INFORMATION: x307 WEBSITE: www.strose-parish.org EUCHARIST / EUCARISTÍA Historic Chapel / Capilla Histórica Monday-Friday................................... 8:30 am (English) 1er Viernes ........................................ 7:00 pm (Español) Sunday............................................... 7:15 am (English) 1er Dimanche................................... 10:00 am (Français) 2nd Sunday ........................................ 5:00 pm (Tagalog) Church / Iglesia Saturday Vigil ..................................... 5:00 pm (English) Sunday...... 8:45 am (English) & 11:15 am (English + ASL) Domingo ........................................... 1:00 pm (Español) RECONCILIATION / RECONCILIACIÓN Historic Chapel / Capilla Histórica Thursday........................ 7:00-9:00 pm (English/Español) Church / Iglesia Saturday ..................................... 4:00-4:30 pm (English) Domingo .................................... 2:15-3:15 pm (Español) BAPTISM PREPARATION / PREPARACIÓN PARA BAUTIZO Bap sm Classes Begin while pregnant or awai ng adop on.
