SOTM December 18 Program: A Christmas Reading Rotary International News HOST: Frank Steber PRESENTER: Bill Phoenix The Rotary Foundation has continued its steady growth, moving up 35 spots to 85th in The Chronicle of Philanthropy's annual ranking of the top 400 nonprofit organizations in the United States. The ranking is based on monetary contributions from private sources and reflects the increasing generosity of those who support Rotary's mission. According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, The Rotary Foundation received $239,576,000 in 2013, a 32.4 percent increase from the previous year. Bill Phoenix introduced Frank Steber, a wellknown name to many in Watkins Glen . Frank is a WWII veteran and dedicated 30 years to teaching English, mostly in Watkins Glen. He’s also known as a columnist for the Watkins Review & Express and an author of many books, including Seneca Dawn, Seneca Sunrise, and Seneca Hope. Frank shared a funny story with the Club perfect for the holidays - the adventure of setting up a Christmas Tree in the family home. Frank arrived at his son’s home to help bring in the tree and decorate for the holidays. He was surprised to find a 10 foot tree roped to the top of his daughter-in-law’s vehicle. “Surely they know what they’re doing,” he thought in spite of its incredible size. It was a struggle to maneuver the huge tree into the house - an endeavor full of witty banter and hilarious reflections by Frank. But once installed, the family had time to reflect on the happiness of Christmas. Andy Tompkins...Missed meeting Matt Hayden...SOTM Bridgette Stewart...Missed meeting, Merry Christmas!
