Global Component Technologies Acquires Konosu Plant, Holds Re-launch
Ceremony to Mark Start of Operations under New Ownership
Tokyo, January 15, 2015—Global Component Technologies Corporation. (headquarters: Shinagawa
Ward, Tokyo; president: Toru Morita), a subsidiary of UniCarriers Corporation (headquarters:
Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo; president: Akira Shiki), has acquired the UD Trucks’ Konosu Plant as of
December 26, 2014, and held a re-launch ceremony to mark the start of operations under new
ownership on January 5.
The Boxing Day handover was witnessed by dignitaries such as Marcus Wahlberg, CPM director
of Volvo Group Trucks Operations, and Takamitsu Sakamaki, vice president of Volvo Powertrain
Production Japan. The UniCarriers group was represented by Morita and Motoaki Kuniyasu, senior
vice president of UniCarriers, and the event was a lively success.
Subsequently, at the January 5 re-launch ceremony, Shintaro Kodama, factory head of the Konosu
Plant, was bullish about the future, saying the re-launch was “the first step in our quest to be the
world’s number one developer, manufacturer, and seller of forklift engines.”
Previously, the plant cast engines and components for UD Trucks and Nissan Motors, as well as
diesel engine components for UniCarriers’ forklifts. Following the transfer of operations to Global
Component Technology, the plant will begin by concentrating on casting forklift engine components
and gradually expand in FY2015 to incorporate the whole production process, including machining
and assembly, thus giving the UniCarriers Group the capability to manufacture its own engines.
UniCarriers and Global Component Technology aim to use this development to boost the group’s
global expansion and achieve ever higher levels of customer satisfaction.
