Violence is evil. These are not profound insights. They are facts and truths. We need to remember that, when Jesus gave us the Lord’s prayer as the way to pray, he included the phrase “deliver us from evil.” Each of us must do all we can to resist evil, to overcome evil, and to support those who, in our name, make the world a safe and better place. During these unsettled times, I remember and pray for our parishioners and families whose members are on the front lines of our global fight against evil. I pray in gratitude for those who served so that we may be free. I pray for victims of terrorism from 9-11 through today. God stays close to us. Be sure that you stay close to God. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SESSIONS The parish offers a comprehensive program in religious education for pre-school, elementary school, junior high, and high school. These sessions are held on Sundays or Mondays. We also offer a program for students who are educationally challenged. Adult parishioners are usually confirmed at the Easter Vigil. For further information, contact the parish office. PENANCE For all parishioners: celebrated on Saturday from 4:15-4:45 p.m. in the area behind the sanctuary of the church; outside of these times, upon request. Communal Penance services are held in Advent and Lent. First Penance: Usually celebrated in the 2nd grade. MARRIAGE Please contact the parish office a year prior to the wedding. Preparation for Marriage includes: Pre-Cana or Marriage Encounter, as well as meetings with the priest who will witness the Marriage. Weddings may be scheduled any day Monday through Saturday. No weddings will be scheduled on Sundays, eves of holidays, holidays, or holiday weekends. ANOINTING OF THE SICK This sacrament may be celebrated with any person who is seriously ill. A communal celebration of this sacrament is held periodically. You may request this sacrament at any time, especially in case of emergency. Every second weekend of the month, they take a simple chili recipe and two disposable pans provided by Corpus Christi from the atrium. The cooks have a week to prepare the chili recipe and freeze it in the two pans. They put the pans in a brown paper bag with their name on it. They return the pans to the church by 9:30 a.m. the following Sunday morning and place them on the rolling cart in the hallway outside the church offices. Driver volunteers will load the meals into their car and take them to Paterson. If they leave at 10 a.m. they are home by noon. Helpers at Eva’s Village will unload the car. These meals are provided in case of an emergency when the regular lunches and dinners run out. Our urgent need is for more volunteer drivers. No one has signed up for the next few months. Many of the chur ches of the Chathams will be participating. Union Beach, NJ Union Beach is an economically poor area, and was devastated by Superstorm Sandy. Many of the people and households are not yet on their feet. We will be working with Gateway Church of Christ to help fix up some homes, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. We need some skilled Dads or Moms to come with us. They are allowing 30 people to come. Participants will gather at Corpus Christi at 5:45, and will go over to Wendy’s or Panera’s for a bite to eat, and then off to New Eyes. There is no cost. At New Eyes we separate and pack eyeglasses that will be distributed to the economically poor in the U.S. and throughout the world. Lunch Bags for Bridges SouperBowl Sunday At PCCT, Middle Schoolers are encouraged to come and bag lunches for the Bridges program from 10:00 to Noon. This will be a fun morning, packed with lots of activity. If interested, please contact Psomi. We need two or three high school leaders to coordinate 6, 7 & 8th graders to hold pots after the masses during the weekend of January 31 and February 1st. High school leaders can be any high school age, and will be supported throughout the endeavor. All the money will be distributed to Bridges, to help feed the hungry on the streets of Newark and NYC. Sixth Grade Open Gym The next and last Sixth Grade Open Gym will be coming up on Friday, March 13 at 7 pm. Open Gym is open to all sixth graders in the Chathams. It is an awesome recreation and free play kind of night. Teen Volunteers We need teenagers for each Open Gym night. Teens work from 600 through 9:30 pm. If you are interested, please contact Psomi.
