Position Title: Scientific Applications Programmer Position Status: Full-time (40 hrs/wk), with benefits Position Location: Troy, NY Job Description: The scientific applications programmer will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software applications used in the creation and delivery of weather forecasting products for the renewable energy sector. This person will also be involved in planning and executing software upgrades to ensure that a state-of-theart forecast system infrastructure is maintained. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and in a team upon receiving direction, and be able to work efficiently and reliably under sh ort timelines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. Specific responsibilities of this position include: Interact with a team of scientific programmers to configure, install, modify, and upgrade the software components of automated operational forecast systems Write, test, and document custom programs for client-driven applications involving data processing, analysis, and communication Occasionally provide 24/7 troubleshooting support to meet data delivery requirements Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or higher in physical or computer science (or a related field) and 2+ years of relevant work experience Experience programming in a Unix/Linux environment using a high-level language, such as Fortran, Perl, C/C++, or Python Ability to learn additional programming languages as needed Authorization to work in the U.S. (without sponsorship) Desired (but not required) Skills: Knowledge, education, or experience in meteorology and/or or the renewable energy industry Experience with web programming languages and databases, such as JavaScript, Ajax, PHP, CSS, and MySQL Familiarity with Java-based XML REST and SOAP web services Compensation: Negotiable, based on experience and qualifications.
