~The World Meeting of Families ~
September 22 - 27 2015
In Philadelphia!
God and Father of us all,
in Jesus, Your Son and our Savior,
You have made us Your sons and daughters
in the family of the Church.
May Your grace and love help our families
in every part of the world be united to one another
in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family,
with the aid of Your Holy Spirit,
guide all families, especially those most troubled,
to be homes of communion and prayer
and to always seek Your truth and live in Your love.
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!
Our Parish Prayer of Unity
Heavenly Father,
You call us to be Your faith-filled people,
United in the Sacred Heart
of Your Son.
Grant us the grace to always respond to
Your call with lives of
active faith, firm hope and Christian charity.
Aided by the example of Saint Augustine,
may we always seek to embrace and love
the teachings of Your Church.
Accompanied by Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
may we, in joyful times and in times of Sorrow,
always strive to be faithful followers of Your Son,
Jesus Christ,
for He lives and reigns with You,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, forever and ever!
Amen!
Sacred Heart of Jesus, We trust in Thee!

#143 Sacred Heart
Dear Friends,
On Tuesday, November 28th, I held my monthly meeting
with our Parish’s Transition Team. (I apologize for this summary of
the meeting being shared almost two months after the meeting;
however, with other ‘timely’ columns, this is the first weekend I am
able to share with you the discussions of the November meeting.)
The first topic we discussed was our parish’s new website (www.unitedinthesacredheart.com).
Transition Team member Walt Fromm, Jr. was instrumental in securing our address and is building the site.
Parishioners are welcome to visit the site and offer recommendations of what you would like to see posted
on our parish website. Visit the site often, as we plan to update it frequently with Parish information and
pictures from Parish events.
Transition Team member John Bednar updated the Team on our Parish’s Patrician Food Drive (which took
place during the month of November). Many thanks to all our parishioners who contributed to this important
food drive that helps so many in our community.
We also discussed our Parish’s Gifts From The Heart Advent Giving Tree (which was in our three
worship sites in early December.) Many thanks to all our parishioners who were able to participate in our
Parish’s Giving Tree. All our gifts were donated to Catholic Social Services and given to many of our
homebound parishioners.
Transition Team member Helen Surman discussed the details of our Parish’s Christmas Eve
Dinner – Bringing Traditions Together (which was held in our school hall on Sunday, December 21st.
Almost 75 parishioners joined us for this new Parish tradition.) Many thanks to all our parishioners who
helped coordinate, plan, cook, set up and clean-up for our Christmas Eve Dinner; a great time has had by all
who joined us.
Transition Team members Lisa Pagnotti and Judy Vicchio agreed to coordinate a Valentine’s Day
Mass with renewal of Vows. This will take place on Saturday, February 14th. Watch our bulletin for a
special insert and more information.
Helen Surman also discussed having Pisanki Easter Egg painting classes. These classes will be
held in Sacred Heart School hall in March. Please watch our bulletin for more information and details on
how to sign up. Many thanks to parishioner Joe Saboe who will be conducting these classes.
Transition Team members Janet Kita and Rob Guenther will be coordinating a Poor Man’s Supper
on Sunday, March 22nd in our school hall. Watch for more information in our bulletin at the beginning of
Lent. A guest speaker will be with us at our Poor Man’s Supper to share with us some information regarding
the important work carried out by Aid For Friends.
I shared some information with the Transition Team about the Mass time poll (that was held in our
Parish on the weekend of December 13-14th). As you are aware, the result of that poll has changed our
second Sunday morning Mass time from 10:00am to 10:15am.
The next topic that was discussed by our Team members was the incorporation of elements from
our three worship sites into Sacred Heart Church. (The tabernacle, sanctuary Crucifix and candle sticks
have been brought over from Our Mother of Sorrows Church into our Church.) In the weeks to come,
please watch for elements from Saint Augustine Worship Site and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Worship Site
to be incorporated into our Church.
Transition Team member Jeanette Guziewicz shared with us some information from a meeting she
attended regarding the World Meeting of Families, to be held in Philadelphia in September. Our bulletin has
contained information on the WMF over the last several weeks. Please watch our bulletin for WMF updates.
Finally, we discussed what took place at our three former parishes during Holy Week and Easter;
our Parish Appreciation Party (that was help in early January); Forty Hours (which took place in late
November); the formation of a Parish Finance Committee; and, the formation of a Parish Fundraising
Committee.
We concluded our meeting with all our Transition Team members stating it was a good meeting.
Through the intercession of Saint Augustine and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, may we always be
United in the Sacred Heart of Jesus!

“May their souls and all the souls of the faithful
departed Rest in peace”
Our Parish offers several opportunities for
parishioners to remember loved ones and to
commemorate special occasions through memorials
in our Parish. In addition to having Mass offered for
a deceased relative or friend (or to honor a special
occasion, or to give thanks to the Lord for a special
favor), parishioners may sponsor our sanctuary lamp
for their intentions, or commemorate the memory of
a loved one or honor a special occasion by donating
the Bread and Wine used in our Parish for a week.
Parishioners are welcome to call or stop by the
rectory to make these arrangements.

Host families needed for
2015 World Meeting of Families
So many people have asked "How can I help with the World Meeting of
Families - Philadelphia 2015?" We have one way! We expect thousands and
thousands of visitors from around the U.S. and the world to join us next
September and there is now a host family program to supplement the hotel
rooms in the region. We need host families! Homestay, a Dublin company, works
every day to match host families with visitors with an online system and they
created a special online host family site just for WMOF 2015. Parishioners, and
other area residents can easily sign up online to be host families. Hosts list
specific accommodations they can offer, household rules, and language
preferences on the web site and visitors search for a match.
Host Families can offer visitors a spare bedroom for a small nightly fee.
This is a great opportunity to provide visitors an affordable trip where they
experience life in a Philadelphia area home.
