To all our visitors… Bishop John R. Gaydos, the clergy and the faithful of the Diocese of Jefferson City welcome you and hope that your time in our Mother Church may be an opportunity to share our faith and joy in Our Lord Jesus Christ. Our parish was formed in 1959 and was elevated to the title of Cathedral in 1968 and dedicated in 1974. Please enjoy the beauty of this spacious building dedicated to the Glory of God and the memory of Saint Joseph, the Husband of Mary. It was built for the inspiration of all who enter. Free tour booklets are available. All visitors who are not of the Roman Catholic faith are most welcome to join us in prayer and worship, but not to receive Holy Communion. Reception of Holy Communion is a sign of full unity and membership in the Catholic community. Together let us all pray for the unity of all believers. If you desire to become a member of the Roman Catholic Church or to become a member of the Cathedral Parish, please call the parish office at 573-635-7991. All contributions to the Cathedral ministries and maintenance are sincerely appreciated. Please remember this Cathedral parish in your Will, gifts and estate plans to support our parish’s ongoing mission. Our Cathedral Parish has 5,000 souls to fill these ministries and as Altar Servers, yet we are very understaffed. Ideally, in order to fulfill the monthly needs of our weekend Masses we need 75 Lectors, but only have 51 volunteers, need 150 Eucharistic Ministers, yet have 93 volunteers, need 100 Ushers, but have 61 and need 100 Altar Servers, but only have 46 volunteers. WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CONSECRATED LIFE: Pope Francis has asked us to remember in prayer, all members of communities of Male and Female Religious. Some duties are, but not limited to: making deposits, paying invoices and recording these into the accounting data base, electronic payroll for approximately 70 employees, making federal and state withholding tax deposits, preparing federal and state quarterly payroll report, working with the Diocesan office regarding lay retirement programs, etc… Applicants should be computer proficient and have the ability to learn software quickly. If interested, please send resume’ by Monday, January 26, to St. Joseph Cathedral, Pastor, 2305 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO. 65109, or e-mail it to stjosephb@catholicweb.com. 5 This year is the 40th anniversary of the Rice Bowl. It began as a small project in the Diocese of Allentown to bring awareness of and food relief to the hungry in Africa. Today, 13,000 parishes across the country, including our own, participate in CRS Rice Bowl in order to feed the hungry at home and abroad and to deepen our experience of Lent. As you probably know, 75% of the money collected goes to Catholic Relief Services to subsidize food distribution, agricultural development, clean water access and other projects in the developing world. The remaining 25% remains in our Diocese. Many parishes choose to keep that share to help fund local hunger and anti-poverty, while others choose to submit the entire amount in which case the 25 % goes to Catholic Charities to support similar efforts. We urge you to take a look at the website at www.crsricebowl.org. They have great resources to help you including prayers, stories and reflections. There is even a handy CRS Rice Bowl app for your phone or tablet which will deliver daily reflections, meatless recipes, as well as track and share your Lenten commitment. When you are assigned as an offertory family, please let one of the ushers know that you are there for that Mass. THANK YOU! 6 The search for the Cathedral’s Director of Music began in early December. The committee met with Msgr. Kurwicki and Fr. Aubuchon and began by reviewing, then finalizing, the “Duties of the Director of Music”, a document which would be posted on the Cathedral’s website and referred to in our advertising. Three venues were used in our advertising: catholicjobs.com, musicasacra.com, and National Pastoral Musicians.com. These were the same sources used successfully in the selection of our last Director of Music. The advertising is producing good interest, and to date, we now have 13 applicants for the position. The search team will meet on Tuesday, February 3 to review all of the resumes, and any reference materials submitted by the applicants, in order to determine which of these would be the best possible fit for our Cathedral parish. Initial contacts will be made by the chairman of the search committee to determine the actual level of interest in the position. Interviews with these applicants by the search team would then follow. Please keep the search for our Director of Music in your daily prayers.
