NIGHTLIGHTS JUNE 2014 Moms Coming Together: More than Milk Group Volunteers with RAPPP “Cheeeese!” young moms and babies proclaimed as volunteer photographer Tiia Norsym snapped heartwarming family portraits of them. Norsym and a group of other moms were part of a Mother’s Day Celebration held at Bubbles Academy for RAPPP (Response Ability Pregnant and Parenting Program), The Night Ministry’s shelter for pregnant and parenting youth. Bubbles Academy is a child enrichment and activity center located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park. The event was an effort coordinated by a non-profit organization called More than Milk. More than Milk is a group of Chicago moms who support local charities through volunteer projects, Housing awareness-building, and fundraising events - all with their babies and kids in tow! More than Milk coordinated the event at Bubbles Academy for moms at RAPPP, complete with lunch, a delicious donated cake, a sing along led by a Bubbles teacher, and gift bags for each young mom. Sian Sutcliffe, wife of Board Member Sean Taylor and member of More than Milk, says she and the More than Milk team had a blast putting the event together and hanging out with the young women from RAPPP. “We like to get all our kids together and do a natural ‘get to know each other’ kind of event. It’s important for all of us that our children see philanthropy in action and grow up Health Care with a ‘giving back’ mentality,” said Sutcliffe. The moms of More than Milk are a fabulous group of women who are eager to help. “We create kidfriendly opportunities for women to give back. We want to take away the barriers to getting involved as a new mom,” said Sutcliffe. Six moms from RAPPP joined More than Milk for the celebration. Children from RAPPP and More than Milk explored together and were quick friends. As one of More than Milk’s designated charities for this year, we appreciate their support and look forward to working with them again!
