School News
162 Students in the school St. Benedict
The New Education Commission had their First
Meeting January 24.
Catholic School Week was last week the students
joined the other Catholic schools in Dayton in a
Eucharistic celebration presided by the Archbishop
at Immaculate Conception Parish on January 28.
The School hosted the clergy of the students for a
Prayer Breakfast with the students on January 27. It
was well attended. A good sign of our unity.
Open house on February 18, 2015 at 5pm to 7pm.
From the Archbishop
Dear Father:
Recently I received correspondence from
Lorenzo Cardinal Baldisseri, the Secretary General
of the Synod of Bishops regarding the upcoming
XIV Ordinary General Assembly.
The III Extraordinary General Assembly
which took place last October focused on The
Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of
Evangelization. The final document of this
extraordinary synodal assembly, the Relatio Synodi,
is the preparatory document or Lineamenta of the
XIV Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled to take
place in the Vatican from October 4 – 15, 2015, to
consider the topic: The Vocation and Mission of
the Family in the Church and Contemporary
World. In this way, the two synodal assemblies
share the same topic of the family and become
part of a single synodal process. The intervening
time between synods is an opportunity to reflect on
the reaction of the first synod and to make a
thorough theological examination of the Church’s
pastoral activity.
The process of preparing for the Ordinary
Synod begins with a consultation in each of the
world’s dioceses. Our Archdiocese of Cincinnati
Pastoral Council will be discussing the Lineamenta
at its next meeting on March 7. Additionally, all
the faithful of the Archdiocese will have the
opportunity to participate as well. On the
Archdiocese of Cincinnati web page we have
posted the Lineamenta and the accompanying
questionnaire. Surveys must be completed by
Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, March 1, 2015 so that the results can be
compiled for the USCCB and then delivered to the
Vatican by their deadline. The link is:
http://catholiccincinnati.org/lineamenta
There is also a link to the USCCB website
which provides further information and answers to
frequently asked questions.
I encourage you to make this information
available to your pastoral councils and interested
parishioners. Wishing you many blessings in your
priestly ministry, I am
Sincerely yours in Christ,
+Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr,
Archbishop of Cincinnati

TAKE TEN & CONNECT
With God & With Others Your Faith & Daily Life
Spend 10 minutes reflecting on God’s Word
Next Sunday’s scripture: Leviticus 13: 1-2, 44-46
1 Corinthians 10: 31-11:1; Mark 1: 40-45
Jesus reached out to these outcasts. What groups do
you have the most difficulty accepting?
Relate a time when you were moved with
compassion toward someone who was considered
"unclean".
Describe a time when you recognized and accepted
another person's ability to help you.
Tell of a time when you were or were not able to
keep good news to yourself.
HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR LENT? (Pt 2)
Lent is not something I need to do alone.
If I have a spouse, or children, or some close
friends, or distant e-mail companions, I can begin now to
talk about how we will support each other in this Lenten
journey. The anticipation and the preparation is transformed
with the companionship of family and close friends. We
shouldn't be deterred by the fear that our spouse or children
or friends "won't be into it." Jesus said, "Fear is useless;
what's needed is trust." Let's begin now to tell others about
our desires. Let's help support others' expectations. Let's
help others see that Lent doesn't have to be something I
avoid, and certainly can't be reduced to "giving up candy."
We can help our loved ones to begin to imagine what they
could receive from God in these days.
