To all our visitors…
Bishop John R. Gaydos, the clergy and the faithful of the Diocese of Jefferson City welcome you and hope that your time in
our Mother Church may be an opportunity to share our faith
and joy in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our parish was formed in 1959 and was elevated to the title of
Cathedral in 1968 and dedicated in 1974. Please enjoy the beauty of this spacious building dedicated to the Glory of God and
the memory of Saint Joseph, the Husband of Mary. It was built
for the inspiration of all who enter. Free tour booklets are available.
All visitors who are not of the Roman Catholic faith are most
welcome to join us in prayer and worship, but not to receive Holy Communion. Reception of Holy Communion is a sign of full
unity and membership in the Catholic community. Together let
us all pray for the unity of all believers.
If you desire to become a member of the Roman Catholic
Church or to become a member of the Cathedral Parish, please
call the parish office at 573-635-7991.
All contributions to the Cathedral ministries and maintenance
are sincerely appreciated. Please remember this Cathedral parish
in your Will, gifts and estate plans to support our parish’s ongoing mission.

WEEK OF PRAYER: We ask each member of our Cathedral
parish to pray for the members of one of the parishes or missions in our diocese this week. As a Cathedral Church, all our
parishes are linked to us and we wish to deepen the spiritual
bond with them. Therefore, we will pray this week for St.
Bonaventure, Marceline.
DYNAMIC CATHOLIC LENT PROGRAM
WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CONSECRATED LIFE: Pope
Francis has asked us to remember in prayer, all members of
communities of Male and Female Religious. This week we
pray for the Living and Deceased members of, plus for an
increase in vocations for, the Dominican Sister of Peace,
OP.
I want to thank you again for bringing the Book Program to
your parish at Christmas. You have planted seeds that will grow
and spread far beyond what your eyes can see. People who hand
out books at Christmas often ask us, “What’s next? How do we
continue to inspire our parishioners?” This year, Dynamic Catholic is developing a new Lenten email program titled, "Best Lent
Ever." The program is designed to help people rediscover the
genius of Catholicism through simple but powerful daily email
messages. Best Lent Ever will be led by Matthew Kelly and will
offer daily spiritual coaching via email to all parishioners who
sign up by Ash Wednesday (February 18). The Best Lent
Ever program is free. Sign up online at BestLentEver.com.
Be Bold. Be Catholic.
Mark Moore, Dynamic Catholic, Director of Ministry

Family extends its sympathy and prayers to the families of

the Lord give comfort and peace to their loved ones who
mourn their loss.

closed and evening meetings cancelled.
The ashes used on Ash Wednesday come from the Blessed
Palms of the year before. Please bring your Palms to Mass now
and put them in the marked baskets at the exits of the Cathedral.
Ash Wednesday is February 18. Thank you!
COLD AND FLU SEASON-As the time of the year for colds and
flu is here, if you are ill, please be considerate of others at the sign of

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR MARRIAGE
Today marks the World Day of Prayer for Marriage. Catholics
believe that marriage comes as a gift from the hand of God. The
Catholic vision of marriage is rooted in Sacred Scripture and is
expressed in the teachings and practices of the Church.
As traditional marriage as intended by God is threatened today,
please take time to educate yourself on this very important issue. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops offers a
variety of resources on their website: www.usccb.org, to help
educate persons about this and many other important social
issues. The USCCB states the word ‘marriage’ isn’t simply a
label that can be attached to different types of relationships.
Instead, ‘marriage’ reflects a deep reality-the reality of the
unique, fruitful, lifelong union that is only possible between a
man and a woman.
HOLY ROSARY-Come and join us on Thursday nights at 7:00
p.m. to pray the Most Holy Rosary in the daily Mass Chapel.
CENTERING PRAYER will meet next on February 9, at 12:10
p.m. in the Chapel. Please join us. Contemplative Prayer is a
powerful way of moving into a deepening experience of divine
union. For questions, contact Barbara Poetker at (573) 8932064.
PSR is for students grades 1-8 who attend public school and
seek instruction in their faith. The next class is February 11 at
7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral School. If you have questions about
this program contact: Cara Sue Cockerham (573) 291-4889.
CONFIRMATION-Our next session is February 22, at 9:15
a.m. in the School Commons, on ‘Holiness is Possible’. For more
information, contact Dave Lankford at (573) 635-9454. Our
Confirmation is April 23, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.
Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life
O God, throughout the ages you have called women
and men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the
evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process of
inquiry, study, prayer, and sacraments by which adults are baptized or received into the Catholic Church, or receive the sacrament of Confirmation. The next class is Monday, February 9
at 6:15 p.m. at the Catholic Center, and will focus on the Sacraments of Penance and Anointing; Introduction to ‘vocations’.
If you are interested or have questions, please call Dan Kempker
at (573) 496-5499 or email him at dkempker@gmail.com.
During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you
thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and
models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to
you.
ANNOUNCEMENT FROM BISHOP GAYDOS
Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons
and daughters who, having found the pearl of great
price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all
things.
Beginning July 1, Sister Elizabeth Youngs of the Sisters of
Charity of Leavenworth, Kansas, will serve as diocesan superintendent of Catholic schools. Sister Julie Brandt of the School
Sisters of Notre Dame will join her in the Catholic schools office
as associate superintendent. Sister Elizabeth is currently the
associate superintendent in the Archdiocese of Denver, with a
PhD in Catholic Educational Leadership, 20 years experience in
Diocesan school office ministry, with strong experience in catechetical/professional formation of principals and teachers.
Sister Julie has served for a year and a half as the Campus Ministry Coordinator and Instructional Technologist at Helias. She
has a Master’s degree in Catholic school leadership and experience in leadership of schools with great cultural diversity, having worked 11 years with the Lakota Sioux at the St. Bernard
Mission School in North Dakota, as well as providing leadership and teaching in the PSR. She is skilled in technology and
planning strategies. She has served as a vocation director and is
trained in spiritual direction. She is a member of our Parish.
Please pray for these women as they begin their new ministries.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives
and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
POPE SAINT JOHN PAUL II CHAIR
We received over Christmas a chair from a generous donor,
made from part of a pew from the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis.
The sides are beautifully decorated with new lumber and engravings commemorating Pope St. John Paul II, who visited the Cathedral Basilica in January of 1999. It has been in our Baptistery,
and will find its new home in our Cathedral School Library
where future generations of students will use it and learn about
the life of this holy and historic Pope.

Please continue to collect Box Tops and Labels for Education
for us! ‘Box Tops’ can be found on many household items you
already use and earns money for our school. ‘Labels for Education’ are also found on many products you already use. These
labels can be redeemed for items that students use in school.
These can be placed in the collection boxes at the Cathedral, or
can be sent to school. Look for the symbol on products you purchase at home. Clip the box top and place them in the box at the
Cathedral entrance and you will help the school earn supplies.

CALLING ALL WAR VETERANS
Do the WWII, Korea and Vietnam heroes in your life know that
they have the opportunity to be flown to Washington DC, at no
cost to them, so they can see the war memorials dedicated to
their service and sacrifice? Central Missouri Honor Flight
needs your help in finding these veterans for a trip of a lifetime.
Applications can be found on our website:
www.centralmissourihonorflight.com. The next flight is April
20, but time to express our thanks to these brave men and
women is running out. Our nation loses 1,000 WWII veterans a
day---that’s 20 a day in Missouri. You can help by identifying
WWII veterans and get them signed up. Many are not internet
savvy so download an application, take it to them, fill it out and
mail it in. Words cannot begin to describe how meaningful this
one-day trip is for them. You can only see it in their eyes and
hear it in their voices. These great and humble Americans return from a Central Missouri Honor Flight to receive the
heroes’ welcome they never received.
PARISH NURSE REPORT
There were 23 hospital visits, 48 nursing facility visits and 46
phone calls made by the parish nurse in January.
