OMC has been selected to participate in a national study of
vibrant parishes conducted by the Catholic Leadership
Institute! Please help us participate by completing a 10-15
minute survey online beginning on February 17. If we have
your email on the Parish Data System, the National Study
survey will be emailed directly to you by
catholicparishstudy@measuring-success.com.The survey
will only be available from February 17 to March 10 and
will ask you to reflect on your own spiritual growth and
enable you to provide feedback on what efforts the parish is
doing to help you grow. All responses will be confidential
and the parish will only receive information about the
community as whole.
We are trying to get the highest response rate possible.
This information will be invaluable to the Parish Staff and
our Parish Pastoral Council as we strive to create a vital,
welcoming Catholic faith community that embraces each

Fast & Abstinence & Other Acts of Penance
The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal
obligation, that all persons who are 14 years of age and
older are bound to abstain from eating meat on Ash
Wednesday, February 18, 2015, and on all Fridays
of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons 18
years of age or older, up to and including their 59th
birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a
single full meal on Ash Wednesday and on Good
Friday, while the other two meals on those days are to
be light.
All the faithful are encouraged, when possible, to
participate at Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist
daily, to celebrate frequently the Sacrament of
Penance, to undertake spiritual reading, especially the
study of the Sacred Scriptures, and to participate in
parish Lenten devotions, as well as Lenten education
programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is
especially recommended.
All are encouraged to participate in Operation Rice
Bowl which has aided countless hungry persons here in
the Archdiocese, as well as throughout our nation and
our world.

Change our Hearts This Time: A Lenten
Morning of Prayer – Saturday, February 28,
2015 – Plan now to give God and you a short, quiet,
time together as we enter into the second full week of
Lent. Gather with others from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM to
pray over the Scriptures for the Second Sunday of Lent
and allow them to touch you deeply and change your
heart. A light breakfast will be provided between 8:30
AM – 9:00 AM in the Parish Center. Bring an
open,willing spirit and a heart full of love. All the rest
will be given by our God! Registration is required.

Interested in making a difference in the
lives of others? Ever thought about
volunteering for a summer? - The SSJ
Mission Corps Summer Experience is a two-month
volunteer program at Saint Mary by-the-Sea Retreat
House in Cape May Point, New Jersey. Volunteers
are invited to live in community and to open
themselves to God’s transforming grace in service to
retreatants. This opportunity is for women ages 19-30
who seek an experience of Gospel living. One year
of college is required. This program is sponsored by
the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia, PA. The
priority deadline for application is March 1, 2015.

Mark Your Calendars – FREE Stage
Production here at OMC! - On Friday, March 6
at 7:30 PM, you can experience the entire gospel of St.
Mark in two amazing hours of inspiring storytelling by
priest and actor, Rev. Joseph Morris. This is not a
reading or talk but a dynamic stage proclamation of an
ancient story about God’s healing love. Fr. Morris
portrays all of the characters as he narrates the story
directly out of the biblical text. “Mark's Gospel LIVE”
is a solo performance that has enjoyed over 200
performances throughout the US, UK, and Canada. A
free-will offering will be taken to offset the expenses of
Fr. Morris. Come and bring a friend!
OMC Spirituality & Theology Book Group

Book: Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton (ca. 160 pages)
In this classic apologia, Chesterton makes a reasoned case
for Christian faith. He presents Christianity as the answer to
natural human needs, the "answer to a riddle" in his own
words, and not simply as an arbitrary truth received from
somewhere outside the boundaries of human experience.
Considered by many as the most brilliant book of
apologetics in the English language, it was written in 1908
in response to a challenge from one of his readers to state
his creed. Rarely has any challenge been more gloriously
and chivalrously met. The reader is treated to a witty and
insightful work that illustrates how reasonable orthodoxy
really is, despite the attacks of its critics. The book also
provides a spiritual autobiography, as Chesterton employs
his own discovery of orthodox Christianity in order to
defend its beauty and its sanity against modern secular
schools of philosophy. The book manages to intellectually
challenge the reader, while still appealing to a child-like
sense of awe at the world around us.

After the devastating flood that Noah and his family
experienced, God established a covenant with them,
promising never again to let such harm come to them.
He promised to watch over them and take care of
them through his Providence. The sign of this
covenant was the rainbow that appeared in the sky
above them. God is now again asking you to be a
sign of this covenant and providence to his priests
who have faithfully served you and your families in
the past.
Our priests have cared for you spiritually, and many
times physically and emotionally, through their
ministries in parishes, schools, hospitals, and many
other areas of your lives. Many of them have gone to
their reward with God, but there are still many more
who need your help. They are in retirement or are
unable to minister actively because of physical
ailments. Villa St. Joseph in Darby, PA, and Regina
Coeli in Warminster, PA, provide happy homes for
all our retired priests. Other nursing facilities
throughout the Archdiocese provide for those with
special needs. At this time in their lives they depend
on your prayerful and financial support to meet their
needs.
Our annual 2015 Collection for the Care of Aging
and Infirm Priests of the Archdiocese will be taken
up on the weekend of February 21/22, 2015,
throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. You
have always been so faithful and generous to them in
the past and we are deeply grateful to you. Through
your love and gratitude, God will continue to watch
over them and care for them for their remaining days.
You are in their daily Mass intentions and prayers,
and we ask you to remember them in yours.

The Good News is in being a Scientist – Every year our 6th and 7th graders participate in our OMC School
Science Fair. In doing so they become true scientists as they engage the Scientific Method in an effort to unravel a
puzzle of the natural world. The Method has 6 steps: Ask a Question, Do Background Research, Construct a
Hypothesis, Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment, Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion, and
Communicate Your Results. The students this year who were best able to navigate this process were:

Peace & Justice Winter Collection Drive
this weekend - February 14/15. We are collecting
socks, gloves, scarves, and hats. Donations will be
distributed to DeSales Service Works, St. John’s
Hospice, and several other organizations for the
homeless. Pope Francis has asked all of us to
support the poor and homeless in whatever way we
can. The Vatican will be providing shaves and
haircuts for the homeless of Rome over the new few
months. We can help by providing a source of
warmth for those on the cold streets of Philadelphia
and Camden. Please leave your items in the baskets
provided in the Church vestibule. Thank you for
helping those in need.
