THE PASTOR’S CORNER
I shared with you last week that our Lenten Series was going to
concentrate on the theme of “Who Is God?” While I expect our speakers
to do an excellent job, I could not resist sharing with you an explanation of
God that came across my desk from an 8 year old boy named Danny. You
see, Danny for his third grade assignment, explained HIS concept of “Who
is God.” He begins as follows:
“One of God’s main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the
ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on
earth. He doesn’t make grownups, just babies. I think because they are
smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn’t have to take up his
valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to
mothers and fathers.”
“God’s second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like
preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime. God doesn’t have time to listen to the radio or TV because of
this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way
to turn it off.”
“God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn’t go
wasting His time by going over your mom and dad’s head asking for something they said you couldn’t have.
Atheists are people who don’t believe in God. I don’t think there are any in my hometown. At least there aren’t
any who come to our church.”
“Jesus is God’s son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles so the
people who didn’t want to learn about God could. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they
crucified him. But he was good and kind, like his father; and he told his father that they didn’t know what they
were doing and to forgive them and God said OK.”
“You can pray anytime you want because they have worked it out that there is always someone on duty. You
should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God very happy, and if there’s anybody you want to make
happy, it’s God.”
“If you don’t believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can’t go
everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He’s around when you’re scared, in the dark
or when you can’t swim and the big kids throw you into the deep water. But, you should always think of what God
can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases. And...that’s why I believe in
God.”
Don’t think I or any adult could explain this more beautifully. Out of the mouth of Babes...
God Bless.

Lenten Series
WEEK 1
The Lenten series begins this Tuesday,
February 24th at 7 PM at OLPH Church
with the Very Rev. Timothy F. Whalen,
Rector of St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe,
as the main celebrant and homilist. His topic will be
WHO IS JESUS? Every person needs to grapple with
Jesus’ question to his disciples, “Who do you say that
I am?”
Celebrant for Lenten Series
WEEK 4
We were able to get a celebrant for the Tuesday,
March 17th Lenten series slot that had previously not
been filled. Our Vicar, Very Rev. Phillip Farrell, will
be the celebrant and homilist for the 7 PM Mass at
OLPH. Father Phil is always more than willing to
help us here when he can.
Wipe Our Shoes - STJ
With the new tile and carpeting at St. Joseph Parish,
it would assist us greatly if everyone coming into
church could wipe their shoes on the door mats. We
knew that especially during the winter months, this
could be an issue. We will continue to clean the floor
and carpet weekly as we have always done even with
the old carpeting.
Ladies of Charity - STJ
The St. Joseph Ladies of Charity will meet on
March 1st after the 10:00 AM Mass in the church
hall. All are welcome!
All bulletin announcements must be received by
Monday at 9 am in written form or e-mail.
The Light Is Still On For You!
“The Light is Still On for You!” is an initiative of
the Diocese of Pittsburgh to encourage Catholics to
avail themselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Confession is the best way to participate in the Lord’s
Passion at Easter. Confession will be available on
Wednesday, March 18th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in
every Catholic parish in the Diocese. Ours will be at
OLMBS only!
Mardi Gras Gets Huge Raves
The comments keep rolling in—Mardi
Gras 2015 was a great success. And
certainly having “Dancing Queen” as the
entertainment truly brought more people
on the dance floor than ever seen in
recent history. Food was great and
plentiful. The fellowship was warm and festive.
People are already begging that we book dancing
Queen again. We are working on that. Again, without
Heather Wygonik, most especially, our sponsors and
a small merry band of volunteers, it does not happen.
Young Adult Dinner & Dialogue
Come for Dinner & Dialogue with Fr. Joe Freedy,
Thursday, February 26th at the Anchor Inn, Natrona
Heights. Dinner & social with free appetizers starts at
6:30 pm. Fr. Joe will speak at 7 pm. No registration
required. Guests are responsible for their dinner &
drink. For more info call Anna at 878-302-7829.
Basket Items - MBS, OLMBSS
It’s never too early to collect items for our popular
“Basket Raffle” during our Summerfest in July.
Maybe it’s a gift that you will never use; a prize that
you will never need; a gift card from a restaurant that
you never frequent. All new items are welcome. They
can be dropped off at the Administrative Office
anytime during regular office hours.

RCIA News
As Easter approaches, please keep in
your prayers the seven people preparing to
enter the Church through Confirmation.
The process for entering the Church as an
adult is known as the Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults (RCIA). We began in September
and explore the various aspects of the Catholic Faith.
During Lent, the candidates continue to learn and
pray, participating in the Rite of Election, in which
the bishop welcomes them into the Church, and the
Scrutinies, special prayers over them that we will see
during Mass in the weeks before Palm Sunday. While
five of our candidates are adults, we are also
welcoming two teens who have chosen to complete
their sacraments and receive Confirmation. As these
people choose to follow the Catholic faith, may it be
a reminder to all of us to renew our faith through
prayer and action.
