Our Purpose
Wayside is a vibrant community of Christian
warmth and joy, committed to Christ and to making
Him known...where God is glorified through Growth
of our Congregation, Care of the Souls entrusted to
us, and Service to our neighbors.
Our Core Values in a WORD:
Word of God above all
Outreach to our Community
Relationships with all ages and stages of faith
Development of devoted disciples.
This year’s theme for Lent is From Shame to
Glory based upon the new book by Nancy
Regensburger by the same name. “Lenten
Living: Lent began on Ash Wednesday,
February 18. Christians have observed this
season of the church year since the fourth
century. It’s traditionally a time of reflection,
penitence and spiritual renewal before Easter. During Lent, some Christians give up something that hinders their relationship with God. Others do something extra for
their spiritual growth or make a special sacrifice. The key is to
make Lent a memorable season of sincere spiritual growth — a
time that can set the tone for the rest of the year.”
EXPLORE LENTEN CROSSES
Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m.
at the Parish Resource Center
Led by Sue Brubaker and
Jane Kintzi
Explore the spiritual practice of making crosses and discover
how the experience can deepen your own spiritual life during
the Lenten season. You will learn about the symbolism of a
number of crosses and, using a variety of materials, create our
own crosses. No artistic talent needed; just a desire to slow
down, to experience God beyond your day-to-day prayers and
allow the cross to speak to you.
A small group of Waysiders has been meeting with Pastor Steve over
the past years to consider themes and creative worship experiences
for Sunday and special services. The schedule of themes and biblical
texts is then used as a basis for choir and band planning, sermon and
Power Point preparations, LOGOS theme planning and more. As we
begin to envision through spring and into the next year, fresh ideas
are being sought from two or three new members to this prayer and
brainstorming group. If this excites you, please contact Judi Yarwood,
Joy Ray, Jane Kintzi or Pastor Steve for more information. Worship
Theme Planning meetings occur on Wednesday evenings about twice
a month and last about an hour or so.
Welcome, Janelle Pabon, Wayside’s new
Praise Band Director, who brings her vision and music ministry to our church!
Janelle is a graduate of Boston’s Berklee
College of Music where she majored in Professional Music, Songwriting and Vocal Performance. She developed her love of music
in singing and playing the piano in a non-denominational church
where her father was the pastor. We are excited to have her lead
our Praise Band, Grace Notes, and our contemporary service to
new horizons – and to also work with Cathie Ardrey and our chancel choir in the planning of blended services over the summer
Please remember to check out the flower sign-up for
sanctuary flowers. We have very few sign ups for the next few
months. Arrangements are $27.50 and yours to take home
after the service. Special requests for specific flowers are
honored (sometimes at an extra cost).
We will be flowering the cross this year for Easter
instead of purchasing potted tulips or daffodils. The
cut flowers will be provided to congregation on Easter
morning, Sunday April 5. If anyone would like to make
a donation toward purchase of the cut flowers they are
welcome to.
Doug Paglia will again be
teaching a book study for
Waysiders entitled "The Red Sea Rules." The book itself describes 10
God-Given strategies for difficult times letting us know that the same God
who led us in, will also lead us out. The 10-week study will be held on
Monday evenings at 6:30pm for an hour beginning on April 13. The book
and the study guide can be ordered on line at www.robertmorgan.com
under “bookstore” and should be purchased in time for the first class. If
you cannot access the internet, contact Bonnie Carbaugh (394-6450) and
she will be glad to order it for you. Please come out and join us; you
won’t be disappointed! There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.
“Cowboy Night”
This is your chance to dress
up like a cowboy or a cowgirl!
GREETERS NEEDED FOR BOTH
SERVICES! Ther e is a sign-up sheet on the
bulletin board. If you have any questions, please
talk to Fred Carbaugh.
