Whole Community Catechesis
Question of the Week
Mk 9:2-10
Theme:
Transfiguration-with the Spirit of Jesus living within us,
we will be transformed
Question for Adults:
Perhaps this reading calls us, not to cling to the
familiar, but to leave the comforts of the parish and reach out to
the world around us. In your neighborhood or community, who is
waiting to hear the Good News?
Question for Adolescents:
Have you ever had a “mountain top” experience where
you felt exceptionally close to God? How was your life changed
by that experience?
Question for Children:
Share about a time when you felt especially close to
God or Jesus.

February Baptisms
We welcome into our parish community the following
children who were baptized at St. Brigid Parish during the month
of February.
Raegan AnnMarie Colihan
Jordan Reese Ott
Taylor Ann Press
Dear Parishioners,
In my Ash Wednesday homily, I said that Lent is a
journey, most of all, into the heart: to the place of encounter
and deeper communion with the Lord. What came to mind in
the following days for me personally was a book by Father Ron
Rolheiser, Prayer: Our Deepest Longing. I read the book when
it was published in 2013, and I recently picked it up again to reread after recommending it to a friend.
Rolheiser writes at the beginning of the book about the
struggles and difficulties we encounter with prayer. One of the
big ones is the busyness of our lives, which often leaves us
indisposed to be still and enter into solitude, where an encounter
with the Lord becomes possible.
Rolheiser claims another obstacle for us in prayer is
our greed for experience. The great spiritual writer Henri
Nouwen once said, “I want to pray but I also don’t want to miss
out on anything – television, movies, socializing with friends,
drinking in the world.”
The challenge, then, is to develop a discipline of daily
prayer. Can we find a few minutes each day where we can be
quiet, and open the door into our heart, the place where we can
rest in God?
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Steve Callahan

Becoming Catholic
Retrouvaille of San Diego
Neighbors In Need
The formation of the individual starts with the
community. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is
a process of discernment and formation for adults interested in
exploring the possibility of becoming Catholic. It is open to those
who are unbaptized, or baptized Christians, or to baptized
Catholics seeking to complete their Sacraments in the Catholic
Church. For more information, please contact Lee Hulburt
at (858) 483-3030 ext. 117 or lee@saintbrigidparish.org.
We ask the community to pray that engaged in this
process of discernment and formation, they may experience the
love of our Lord and Savior, through the love expressed by this
community.

Kairos Kookie Time!
Lenten Soup Supper
Cookies have been an integral part of the Kairos Prison
Ministry weekends for the twenty plus years of our existence at
the R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility.
We are again asking for your continued support. The
upcoming Kairos dates are Thursday, March 19th through
Sunday, March 22nd. Please encourage your friends, members
of your club, families and community to bake several dozen or
more cookies for Kairos. Our goal is 6,000 dozen cookies to be
shared in two prison yards where we will be ministering.
Package the cookies in clear, zip-loc freezer bags
(gallon size is ideal). Package no more than one dozen
cookies per bag. ONLY cookies can be in the bags, do not
use tin foil, wire ties or place letters or notes or tracts in the
bags. The bags will be inspected by the prison personnel.
Cookies containing nuts should be identified on the bag
using a Sharpie marker. Sugar free and/or gluten free cookies
are also requested if so labeled. Store the cookies at home
(please freeze them). Cookies should be placed in the Parish
hall freezer for pick-up no later than 11:00 a.m., Sunday, March
15th. Contact Fred Williams at lfwatty@aol.com for more
information.

at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room.
Grupo de Veinte Foundation
Friday, March 20th—4:30 p.m.—8:00 p.m.—Parish Hall
Everyone is invited to the annual Lenten Soup Supper
sponsored by Grupo de Veinte Foundation. Four delicious
soups will be served: Quinoa, Broccoli Cheese, Minestrone, and
Chowder as well as salad, assorted breads, tropical fruit, coffee,
tea and dessert. Donations received will benefit the Andean
people by literally bringing light to their lives.
Visiting us from Cusco, Peru, the owners of Buen
Power Peru will demonstrate the Solar Home Light System and
discuss the many benefits of having a rechargeable, solarpowered lighting source in the high Andes region. Forty-four
percent of the Andean population has little or no access to

lighting and help prevent pulmonary health problems and burn
accidents due to the use of kerosene lamps and candles.

talk about her new book entitled: the Prodigal You Love:
Inviting Loved Ones Back to the Church.

Listen and Follow
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” And listen they did.
From that moment on, Peter, James, and John were ardent
followers, forsaking everything to follow in their Master’s
footsteps. Like the psalmist crying, “O Lord, I am your servant,”
the three disciples committed themselves to lives of incredible
hardship and indescribable joy. After that day on the mountain,
they never again wavered in their chosen vocation.
Though our tests may not be as severe as Abraham’s and
our peak experiences not as dramatic as the Transfiguration, we
all face the daily challenges of walking “before the Lord in the
land of the living.” As we follow our varied calls to love and
serve, let’s be comforted by Paul’s reminder to the Romans: “If
God is for us, who can be against us?”
