St. Hubert Catholic Community 8201 Main Street Chanhassen, Minnesota 55317 www.sthubert.org 1 March 1, 2015 A NOTE FROM FR. ROLF TOLLEFSON For my bulletin article this week, I offer a Lenten smorgasbord of sorts: 20 Things to Give Up for Lent Guilt – I am loved by Jesus and he has forgiven my sins. Today is a new day and the past is behind. Fear – God is on my side. In him I am more than a conqueror. (see Romans 8) The need to please everyone – I can’t please everyone anyways. There is only one I need to strive to please. Envy – I am blessed. My value is not found in my possessions, but in my relationship with my Heavenly Father. Impatience – God’s timing is the perfect timing. Sense of entitlement – The world does not owe me anything. God does not owe me anything. I live in humility and grace. Bitterness and Resentment – The only person I am hurting by holding on to these is myself. Blame – I am not going to pass the buck. I will take responsibility for my actions. woman agreeing to be abused and degraded in a sexual relationship. Leaders in the Religious Alliance Against Pornography (RAAP) have stated, “The contrast between the message of Fifty Shades of Grey and God’s design for selfgiving and self-sacrificing love, marriage and sexual intimacy could not be greater.” As you know, we as bishops have spoken with a united voice against domestic violence, and in particular, violence against women. This is an opportunity for us to remind the faithful of the beauty of the Church’s teaching on the gift of sexual intimacy in marriage, the great dignity of women, and the moral reprehensibility of all domestic violence and sexual exploitation. We need to rally against this movie. OFFICE OF EVANGELIZATION AND CATECHESIS 2015 Archdiocesan Men’s Conference - March 21 - 8:00 AM12:00 PM (Doors open at 7:00 AM for Adoration & confession) AARC Fieldhouse at the University of St. Thomas Men of all ages and walks of life are invited to a morning filled with faith and fellowship. St. Hubert’s will be sending a bus to this event. Please contact Mark Croteau for more information. Gossip and Negativity – I will put the best construction on everything when it comes to other people. I will also minimize my contact with people who are negative and toxic bringing other people down. Comparison – I have my own unique contribution to make and there is no one else like me. Fear of failure – You don’t succeed without experiencing failure. Just make sure you fail forward. A spirit of poverty – Believe with God that there is always more than enough and never a lack. Feelings of unworthiness – You are fearfully and wonderfully made by your creator. (see Psalm 139) Doubt – Believe God has a plan for you that is beyond anything you could imagine. The future is brighter than you could ever realize. Self-pity – God comforts us in our sorrow so that we can comfort others with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. Retirement – As long as you are still breathing, you are here for a reason. You have a purpose to influence others for Christ. That does not come to an end until the day we die. We would like to welcome all those visiting with us today. If you are interested in becoming a member of St. Hubert Catholic Community, please call Barb at (952) 374-5055, or meet an Information Team Member at our new Information Desk in the gathering space. PLEASE JOIN US FOR AN HOUR OF HEALING EVERY FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH 8:00-9:00 PM (DURING LENT) IN THE CHURCH. NEXT HOUR OF HEALING IS FRIDAY, MARCH 6, AFTER STATIONS. Excuses – A wise man once said, if you need an excuse, any excuse will do. Lack of counsel – Wise decisions are rarely made in a vacuum. Pride – Blessed are the humble. Regarding Fifty Shades of Grey – A message from Bishop Richard Malone, Chairman of the Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth As you may be aware, a film called Fifty Shades of Grey was released in theaters on February 13. The books and film, marketed as a romantic story, are a graphic portrayal of a young Mass Intentions: Please be aware that we are currently reviewing our policy for Mass intentions and as such we will not be taking any intentions for the 2016 calendar year until we have completed our review. We will continue to take Mass intentions for 2015 as normal. When we have finished our review, we will publish our policy and highlight any changes. When we publish our policy, we also communicate when we will begin to except Mass intentions for the 2016 calendar year. Thank you for your patience during this process. 2nd Sunday of Lent WEEKLY SCHEDULE 1 Sunday 8:00 AM 8:30 AM 10:30 AM 10:30 AM 3:30 PM 6:00 PM 7:00 PM 2 Monday 7:30 AM 4:00 PM 5:00 PM 6:30 PM 3 Tuesday 7:30 AM 8:00 AM 9:15 AM 5:00 PM 5:00 PM 6:30 PM 6:30 PM 7:00 PM 7:00 PM 7:00 PM 4 Wednesday 6:30 AM 9:15 AM 5:00 PM 7:00 PM 7:30 PM 7:30 PM 5 Thursday 7:30 AM 6:30 PM 6:30 PM 7:00 PM 8:00 AM 6 Friday 7:30 AM 3:00 PM 7:00 PM 8:00 PM 7 Saturday 7:00 AM 8:00 AM 8:30 AM 9:00 AM 4:00 PM 5:15 PM 8 Sunday 8:00 AM 8:30 AM 10:30 AM 10:30 AM 3:30 PM 6:00 PM 6:00 PM 7:00 PM Reconciliation (Church) Art Kerber Sunday School (#110) Rosella Schmidt Confirmation Groups (S. The Sacrament of Baptism: The Baptism class is designed to help prepare parents for Baptism before their child receives this sacrament. Please call Barb in the parish office at (952) 374-5055 for more information and class dates. St. Hubert welcomes the newly baptized: Dylan Robert Snyder, Quinn Deborah Stebbins, Brielle Mae Toye, Charlotte Mae Gehlen , Charles Thomas Drewiske, Allison Elenor Budde and Lavinia Victoria Carver . Community Life embodies the spirit and social nature of St. Hubert’s. The group, which numbers about 12 people, fosters community spirit that invites, welcomes and helps people respond to their baptismal calling. We do that by, for example, providing bingo and making treats at the pre-Christmas cookie and candy sale, organizing a massive sandwich assembly for a major Twin Cities meal provider for the homeless, serving a meal and fellowship at our 150th anniversary celebration or the Holy Thursday pot luck and by helping your pet be blessed each fall. The list goes on and on, but back to that baptismal calling. When you gave generously at our candy sale, the proceeds went to help those in need. One recipient used the gift cards to provide for her children at Christmas. She came back to say thank you to Deacon Tim, hoping her children could meet the people who made their Christmas possible. Giving of time, talent and treasure - that’s what community life at St. Hubert’s is all about. If you’re interested in joining or learning more about this dynamic, hardworking group, please call or e-mail Julie Lizak at (952) 934-9106, Julie.Lizak@sthubert.org. 2nd Sunday of Lent 4 Area Churches - Lenten Reconciliation Dates Tuesday, March 3, 7:30 PM – Immaculate Conception, Watertown Tuesday, March 10, 7:00 PM – St. Hubert’s, Chanhassen Wednesday, March 11, 5:30 PM – Ascension, Norwood Thursday, March 19, 7:00 PM – Our Lady of the Lake, Mound Sunday, March 22, 4:30 PM – St. Joseph, Waconia Monday, March 23, 7:00 PM – St. Mary, Waverly Tuesday, March 24, 5:00 PM – St. John the Baptist, Excelsior Wednesday, March 25, 7:00 PM – St. Boniface, St. Bonifacius Wednesday, March 25, 7:00 PM – Guardian Angels, Chaska Thursday, March 26, 7:00 PM – St. George, Long Lake Wednesday, April 1, 6:00 PM – St. Nicholas, Carver Memorial Flower Donations: We are accepting donations for church flowers as memorials for Easter.
