MARCH 2015
IGHT’ GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE K MESSAGE
March 2015 Grand Knights Message
The Friday Lenten Dinners are starting on February 20th at the
Council which are run by the Ladies Auxiliary. Stop by the
Council and see the menu on each of the nights. Show your support by attending and remember to bring a friend or two. The
Ladies do an outstanding job. I take my hat off to them and all
their volunteers. I will see you all there. Brothers it would be in
your best interest for all to be at the next two meetings. There is
going to be an announcement made at that time. Congratulations
to Jim Castrovilly who was elected at the last meeting to the
position of Treasurer for the remainder of the Columbian Year.
Our Council Squires help out at Simons Kitchen in Seaside
Heights from time to time. If you’re interested in helping out,
please contact me for the dates. The Squires do a great job and we
need to support them because they’re the future of the Knights of
Columbus. If you have not paid your dues for 2015 please do so. If
you’re not a Knight in Good Standing you will not be able to use
the facility. Time is running out and don’t be the one that forgets.
If you’re not sure please contact the Financial Secretary Brother
John Langan PGK at 732-270-2985.
The Super 50/50 Raffle was drawn on February 1st. I would like
to say congratulations to Jim Budenas who was the winner.
Thanks to everyone that purchased a ticket because this is our
main fund raiser for the Annual Christmas Food Baskets
Program and I am sure the people that receive the baskets thank
you too. I would like to thank again Brother Nick Crosta for
putting out something to eat every time he is bartending during
the day. It’s usually hot soup which warms you up on these cold
days. Stop by and see the day-time bartenders and spend some
time with fellow brothers.
On Saturday February 21st there were two great events that
went on. In the morning we had the Annual Polar Plunge in Seaside Heights. We had twelve people in our group consisting of
brothers, wives, daughters and guests. Our Team was lead by our
team Captain Brother Darren Fullerton and Kim Spill. They did
another fantastic job. I would like to thank those people who
supported them by making a donation to the team. Hope to see
our team grow next year.

”FROM YOUR SPIRITUAL ADVISER
Bothers and Sisters,
Greetings from South Carolina! As I am writing this, I am attempting to stay little warmer with no
snow, but the weather has not been that warm. But no snow! While here, we have been observing Lent
in a St. Michael’s Parish in Surfside Beach, a really nice vibrant parish that a few of our members are
familiar. While attending the Stations of The Cross, the booklet used had “The Fifteenth Station”
in it. While “not official”, it was a reminder that even the “dark days” of Lent, there is Hope! The
Fifteenth Station is The Resurrection. It is The Resurrection that gives great meaning to The Stations,
The Passion of Jesus. The Stations reminds us of the Great Love of Christ, The suffering that He
endured for the Forgiveness of Our Sins. But just think about it…If it were not for The Resurrection,
the crucifixion would have been just another victim put to death by the Romans. Jesus rising from the
dead, completes the meaning of The Cross in our Faith. Just think of the followers who were so
disappointed on the Road to Emmaus…until they realized Jesus was Risen and with them!
We venerate The Cross, we will be observing Lent in this month. Appreciate the meaning, especially as
we go into and celebrate the Solemn Triduum, That is Holy Thursday, The gift of the Eucharist and the
Priesthood, Good Friday, The Passion and Death of Christ, Holy Saturday and the Rising of Christ,
so beautifully celebrated at The Easter Vigil.
My Brothers and Sisters, observe Lent with lt’s meaning, but remember that there is The Light at the
end of the tunnel. He rises.
Pray for me as I do for you.
Deacon Frank

LADIES AUXILIARY
—————————————————————————,
Ladies,
The Lenten season is upon us; it is a season of penance,
reflection, and fasting which prepares us for Christ's
Resurrection on Easter Sunday, through which we attain
redemption. May you carry Christ with you every day.
Our Lenten dinners will continue through March 27th. Please
invite your friends and families to join us every Friday for
dinner. Our next scheduled meeting is Wednesday March
18th at 7:30pm. As always, new members are always welcome.
Come join us!
Congratulations to the KofC Chilly Knights in their Polar Bear
Plunge for NJ Special Olympics. You did a great job for a great
charity.
"Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own
house. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a
next door neighbor... Let no one ever come to you without
leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's
kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes,
kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting." Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

On Saturday, February 21, a band of VERY hearty
souls from the Council, their friends and relatives,
conquered the VERY cold Atlantic Ocean waters in
Seaside as part of the Annual Polar Bear Plunge.
This annual event attracted several thousand
dedicated (and maybe a little crazy) individuals
who plunged into the fridge waters for a great charity.
They raised approximately $ 1.7 million dollars for
the Special Olympics. This effort was led by Chief
Polar Bears Darren Fullerton and Kim Spill.
Congratulations to these intrepid souls and their
dedication to help support this great charity. They
know and practice the first Principal of our
order..CHARITY.
INTERESTED IN BECOMING AN OFFICER IN COUNCIL 4969
PLEASE LET THE GRAND KNIGHT OR DEPUTY GRAND KNIGHT KNOW.
GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1
In the evening we had the Blast from the Past Party. This event was coordinated by the God’s
Special People Chairman John Budenas (Deputy Grand Knight). This event was sold out.
Everyone that attended this great event had a great time. For those of you that missed it, make
sure you don’t miss the next one. Unfortunately we all will pass on and go to heaven, but it is
very important that your Council and Brother Knights know when this time comes. If we don’t
get contacted by someone from the family or the funeral home, we as Brothers of the Knights of
Columbus cannot pay our respects to the fellow Brother and his family. I would ask every
Brother after reading this to talk to their family and make sure they know of your wishes plus
how to contact the Council. Just a reminder that the New Security and Swipe Card System are
installed and online. If you would like a swipe card and are a member of this council, they are
available at the bar for a $5 card charge.

Brother Gregory B. Wallack, went to God on
Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015. He was a 40 year, Honorary Life
member of the Knights and our Council. One of his
sons is the Rev. Michael Wallack who many of you will
remember.
He was originally a parishioner and Deacon for 20
years at St. Justin’s. He moved to Lakehurst where he
was a parishioner of St. John's R.C. Church. He taught
CCD and was a volunteer Eucharistic minister at
Community Medical Center. He retired from the State
Police as Detective Sergeant 1st Class after giving 25
years of service.
Unfortunately, In his obituary, there was no mention of
his being a Knight and we just found out about his
passing at Mass at St. Justin’s. Please keep the family
in our prayers.

Blast from the Past
In spite of the winter weather that night, the Blast from
the Past turned out to be a major success, as it yielded a
profit of $1,068 for the God’s Special People program.
There were over 150 tickets sold for the event that was
held on February 21, and I feel sorry for those who were
unable to attend because of amount of snow we got that
night. Those who braved the elements enjoyed the music
of the D-Cees, the catered Italian meal from Patsy’s catering, and the camaraderie of friends and supporters of the
God’s Special People program.
Brother Steve Kempf was honored for his years of musical
entertainment at GSP events, and Past Grand Knight
Jack Cronen made a presentation to Joyce Abrahamson,
President of Our Special Kids of Toms River, and her
group that was so well-represented that evening. My special thanks go out to my wife, Marge, and our family, all
my Brother Knights, Ladies Auxiliary members, and local
businesses who donated the many door prizes that were
given out. Many thanks to all who attended and helped
by making this event the tremendous success that it was.

FIELD AGENT REPORT
Only Having Insurance “Through Work” Doesn’t Work
Do you know anyone whose life or career has drastically changed during these years of economic downturn? It’s very
likely that someone in your immediate or extended family or group of friends is facing financial uncertainty. Maybe
there’s a possibility that you (or your spouse) could lose your job or change employers.Too many people have often relied on group term life insurance as their only safety net. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at low or
no cost. The existence of this coverage might convince someone that personally-owned life insurance is not necessary. But only having “through work” insurance can leave you and your family vulnerable. Most group life insurance
policies are limited in amount, which may be tied to salary or some other benchmark. These numbers are often capped,
and this cap may be dangerously low when compared to your family’s actual needs. In fact, a detailed needs analysis
that evaluates your specific situation, will likely show that any employer-provided coverage falls short. In addition, the
amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced, sometimes dramatically, when you retire. You could one
day find yourself without coverage, and if your health has changed (which it will as you age), you might also find yourself unable to secure individual protection. At the very least, it will definitely be more expensive. .While group life insurance can help, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance. I’ll be happy to meet with you and
provide a no-cost needs analysis, so you’ll know exactly where you stand.
Fraternally,
Mike Cordo
