The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences invites applications for
PROFESSORSHIP TO STRENGTHEN ITS RESEARCH IN THE FIELD
SUSTAINABILITY IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES AT UNIVERSITÄT HAMBURG

commencing as soon as possible.
Sustainability relates to social, ecological, and economic aspects, more specifically investigation
into what is required in order to secure long-term social welfare and economic wealth,
ecological sustainability, liberal social systems, creativity, and societal self-enlightenment.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate international research experience as well as a
successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded
projects. The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore
requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.

W2 PROFESSORSHIP IN JOURNALISM / COMMUNICATION STUDIES (DIGITAL
COMMUNICATION AND SUSTAINABILTY)

Tasks:
The post-holder will teach and conduct research in the discipline. We expect the successful
candidate to collaborate on the overriding topic of sustainability. We welcome demonstrable
expertise in the areas of online research, quantitative methods, and media use.
We expect the post-holder to be prepared to pursue interdisciplinary cooperation. We welcome
participation in the Faculty’s Research Centre for Globalisation and Governance (CGG).
The successful candidate will teach in English and German in the bachelor’s and master’s
degree programs in the Department of Social Sciences, in particular in the master’s degree
program in journalism and mass communication and in the Faculty’s Graduate School.
Section 12 (7) sentence 2 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) applies.
Requirements :
Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in §15 of the Hamburg Higher
Education Act (HmbHG).
