From Fr. Quint
Dear Parishioners:
For the holy day on Tuesday, I’m going to prepare lunch
for dad, mom’s two sisters and their husbands. Grandma
Mulvehill was completely Irish, although she didn’t make
much fuss over it. When asked about her heritage, she
usually responded, “I’m an American.” Well said. Mom,
however, always made a big deal about St. Patrick’s Day.
She got me a new green shirt every year and liked playing
some of the Irish songs on the piano. Recent bad news is
that her upright piano, which was her father’s, may have to
remain in Dad’s basement as it seems too heavy to move
to my niece’s home. Rats! The guys who moved it down
there always said if it were ever to come back upstairs it
would be in pieces!
Thursday will bring the wearing of some red for many of
us. I claim German heritage from Dad’s side. It was great
to visit the town of Quint, Germany while on sabbatical.
Since it is the patronal feast day of St. Joseph Parish, Earlville, you might want to join us for confessions and adoration that night beginning at 7:00 pm.
• Welcome to the Knights of Columbus visiting Dyersville
for the state bowling tournament.
• See you today at 2 pm at New Vienna for confessions.
Four priests will be present. Next Saturday plan to come
to confession at the basilica in Dyersville at 11:00 am.
There will be nine priests present for this communal
penance service. Stations are provided with screens or
face-to-face confessions.
• The Christ Renews His Parish retreat for woman last
week was a tremendous success. Twenty-two women
from our parishes participated. Men – please call the
parish office this week and let us know you are coming
to the retreat on March 21/22.
• Join us for the final segment of our four part series on
the evangelical counsels at our cluster Catholic high
school, Beckman, as Fr. O’Connor presents on Obedience. Begins at 7 pm and will wrap up in 45 minutes.
Father is looking for suggestions on how to have deer
obey his call during hunting season.
• The students at Xavier School will celebrate the sacrament of Penance on Wednesday afternoon. Parents
should assist their children in calling to mind their sins in
preparation for confession.
• Archbishop Jackels will serve as the celebrant for Mass
at Beckman Catholic this Thursday at 10:20 am in the
auditorium. All are welcome.
• Best wishes to Fr. O’Connor as he celebrates his birthday this week. May he enjoy continued joy, health, and
holiness.
• I’ll see you on Friday night at the fish fry at Xavier
School in Dyersville. The guys from Earlville do an awesome job of frying the fish and the line doesn’t last long
at all. Next Sunday we’ll have steak at St. Paul School,
Worthington and then participate in the cluster 40 hours
celebration at 6:30 pm.
• Our neighbors to the north at LaSalle schools (Holy
Cross, Luxemburg, etc) are discontinuing education for
students in grades 7 and 8. We hope most of them will
join us at Beckman Catholic. Mr. Meade and I visited
with Fr. Diehm and their principal last week. Please
pray for them in this time of transition.

FORTY HOURS DEVOTION is an important time in the life
of individuals and the parish as a whole. It is intended to be
a time of quiet prayer, community prayer and adoration.
Every year the parish takes a little time out to give something back to God and a time to do some personal reflection. One
of the chief components of the day is spending some time in private adoration. Times are listed when we need people to
come and spend some time before the Blessed Sacrament. Sign up today. None of us are so busy 24/7 that we can’t take
some time with the Lord.
HOLY WEEK IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. Check the schedule: 7:00 p.m. Holy Thursday at Petersburg,
