LITURGY OF THE WORD In the first reading, the chosen people of God are free to return to Israel. In Ephesians we hear of God’s rich mercy. Jesus teaches in the Gospel that God sent him as a sacrifice to save us. He compares his being lifted up on the cross to the bronze serpent lifted by Moses to heal the Israelites.
