Principal’s Comment
IMPORTANT DATES
Uy Skweyul, Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,
Mon. Mar 16
Tues. Mar 17
The year is moving along quickly now as we head toward the
Spring Break. There are a number of important events that are
taking place this week.
First let me congratulate the students achieving Principal’s List,
Honour Roll and Honourable Mention. These students make up
almost 40% of our school population. Great Results!!
Interim Reports
Teachers will be sending home interim reports with all students
this Wednesday. This is a 5 week report that will let parents and
students know how they are doing in each subject. While it will
typically not include a percentage (at this point it is often too early
to set a specific mark), it will indicate works habits and if they are
meeting or exceeding the course requirements.
Interim Report Meetings
This Thursday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., teachers will be available in
their classes, and by phone to speak with parents. Please feel
free to contact the school at 250-245-3043, or email teachers
(see email addresses contained), or drop by the school.
PAC Meeting
The monthly PAC meeting is the third Tuesday of each month
(tomorrow evening) at 7 p.m. in room 104. All Parents are
welcome and invited to attend!
Grad Fashion Show
The Grad Fashion Show is tomorrow, March 17th at 6:30 p.m.
here at the school. This is a fun event and a great fundraiser for
the Grad. Please come out and support this wonderful event!
Spring Break is a great time for students to get caught-up on
school work, or to get a break from the pressures of school. It is
always a good strategy to spend the early part of the break
catching-up as needed, at the later part to relax and refresh
before the second half of the term.
Have a Great Refreshing Spring Break and a
Happy St. Patty’s Day tomorrow!

If this sounds like you, then apply to become a Dual Credit
Enrichment Student! Dual Credit Enrichment is a partnership
program with Vancouver Island University and the School
District that allows you to take up to 4 courses in your grade 12
year while the district pays the tuition! Courses have been
offered in Sociology, Psychology, Digital Media, Art, Creative
Writing, Journalism, History, First Nations Studies, English and
many other subjects!
If you would like more information please email

THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story, and it is every
father's nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of
darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young
man from a respectable family - a man her parents have never met.
And if that weren't upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her
father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams
must do something he's never done before - keep a secret from
his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family
on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's 'normal' boyfriend and his parents.
Come and enjoy another fantastic production put on by Ladysmith
Secondary students, staff and parents!
You won’t be disappointed!

London, Paris, Italy! Spring Break 2016
We have decided that London, Paris and Italy will be our adventure
during Spring break of 2016. We have confirmed with Explorica
and have submitted our application to the School District for
approval. So far we have 11 students committed. If there are still
students interested in going, please visit Mrs. Bailey or Ms. McGuff
for further information as we do have space available.
Aboriginal Support is located in room 229. Homework Club is
on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunchtime in room 229. There
will be snacks, homework support, and monthly prizes. This is
open to anyone and any subject.
Aboriginal Grads who are seeking support with their
scholarships are welcome to visit with Ms. Dolen in room 229 for
assistance.
Access to Medical Services
Library News
Freedom to Read
Freedom to Read is celebrated annually in many schools and
libraries across Canada. This event helps to remind us of the
importance of the freedom to think for ourselves, and of our right to
have access to information. Many students participated in our
school's Freedom to Read contest, and the five draw winners
were pleased with their prizes.
From time to time, we have students that will come to the office
and ask to see the school nurse for a number of medical concerns. Parents and Guardians are reminded that schools have
onsite first aid attendants only. Their role is to assist with emergency situations for our staff and when necessary our students.
If your student has sustained an injury during non-school times
we would ask that you access the medical services available in
the community.
Thank you.
Author Visit
VIU Professor and young adult author Susan Juby gave a
presentation for Mr. Taylor's Literature 12 class. During this
interesting session, the author talked about about being a writer,
sources of ideas and other parts of the writing process.
New Books
There are many new books available in the library - something for
everyone!
Britannica Encyclopedia & Image Quest
Through the school library's subscription,
LSS students and their families have access
to these great online resources.
From outside the school, a user name and a
password are required. These are
available at the library.
Student Late Sign In
It has come to our notice that students are using the
LATE SIGN IN sheet as a means for coming AND leaving
the building.
This is for late sign ins (arriving at school) ONLY.
When you leave the school you must check in with the
secretaries BEFORE leaving to sign out on a different
sheet.
Students need permission from a parent/guardian
before leaving the premises.
