As a church, we proclaim the gospel as Christ’s unchanging mission to us in utter dependence on Him, (6:2, 4) 2. As a church, we are committed to embody the gospel to those inside and to those outside, (6:3, 5-6, 8) a. In line with the serving character of the church, we care and serve one another (see Mark 10:45) b. Having experienced the saving grace of the gospel, we go out and share with others the gospel 3. As a church, we are willing to endure suffering for the gospel for the expansion of the church, (6:8-7:60; 8:4) a. We endeavor to understand in increasing measure the Christ we proclaim as revealed in the Bible b. We rejoice when we suffer for the gospel (see Acts 5:41) Conclusion Reflection Do stay back to pause, reflect and pray about what God has spoken to you during the service. Please be mindful of others who may be praying. Do share with others over lunch fe"owship to encourage them. We are delighted to have our very own homegrown Odelia Tan volunteering at the Kids’ Fun Corner and chapel during her summer break from mid January till the end of February 2015. She has been with LPPC since 2002 and was a former KCPPS student in the 2001-2006 cohort. She is currently pursuing her tertiary education at the University of Sydney. Below is her sharing on her involvement with us in the school ministry. Do join us in sharing our lives with the young ones in the primary school. If you are interested to help out during their recess (Kids’ Fun Corner: KFC) on Wed and/or Thurs, or in our Boy's and Girl's Brigade or any other area related to school ministry do approach Carol or Gerard for details. True Happiness by Odelia Tan. (taken from her blog with permission) Hello there!! *waves* Here’s about something that I’ve experienced these past few weeks during my holidays and I just thought that it was a pretty meaningful sharing and since recently I’ve been asked about my feelings regarding this. Well, I’ve been volunteering at my church and primary school these last few weeks: helping out at chapel, the recess ministry and just little administrative work here and there, and well it’s really been a great experience despite how mundane it could sound. Maybe it’s because my scope of work mostly involves dealing with children and so that’s what could make a difference. So here goes. This whole thing initially started out as a way for me to spend my holidays back in Singapore more meaningfully, but instead it has become something that I have come to look forward every week, simply because of the feeling of fulfilment and satisfaction that comes with what we do. It really may not seem like much but when you really take the time to experience and absorb what you’re feeling right there and then with every single child, it is when the experience becomes truly amazing. I mostly interacted with children from ages 7 to 12 two days a week, who will come into the fellowship hall to play games during recess and chapel for weekly service. The children come into the fellowship hall and chapel for about half an hour each session and since there are so many, the time we have with each child isn’t much. But yet, each experience that you do have is such a pleasant and comforting feeling. The children come in with innocent and earnest eyes, looking to spend their breaks having some fun and with stories to share with whoever that will lend a listening ear. I’ve had children tell me stories about the simplest of things, be it how they lost a tooth or moved house or how they just had a little fight with their “best friends”. But yet they tell it with such genuine and innocent eyes, their voices full of enthusiasm and heart just bursting out of their mouths. The way their hands move and the way they seem to share their life stories with you like they’ve known you their entire lives. Furthermore, how they take note of the little details even when they barely matter, like how they saw me the day before or how they see me with a bandaid on my finger and ask me what happened. Whether it hurts or whether I cleaned it up well. Where I hurt it, with what, whilst doing what. And you might think they’re asking because well it’s polite to do so right? But no, you can see it in their eyes and hear it in their voice and how they really care even though you’ve barely met. Next, how they look up at me when they come into the chapel, earnestly trying to say hello to you among the crowd and waving like their lives depended on it with their little hands. The way they smile 4 their widest smiles, showing off their little toothless grins. The way one of them said “Hi Auntie” with the look of pure innocence in their eyes, so much that you can’t help but smile, even though you’re far from being one. Lastly, how they earnestly take in every word and invest their whole spirit into listening and absorbing every single thing you tell them. The way they’re so impressionable yet so innocent at the same time. The way you watch them jump around and follow the actions of Gerard or Teacher Carol during chapel. The way you hear them sing. The way they listen quietly. The way they say “YES”. The way they fight to answer questions, just for that little bookmark of a prize. Through all of these, I’ve experienced the feeling of pure joy, pure happiness and pure fulfilment through that of a child’s eyes. Where simple things matter most and when there is barely another care in the world. Where they love and care wholeheartedly. And I can’t help but fathom how it feels to watch these little children come to God over time, when I’ve just watched them for a few hours a week. How it must feel to do this for a living and to watch these little children grow, and to really invest in their little lives. And it’s really reminded me to take a step back and learn to appreciate the little things in life because sometimes that’s what matters most. To learn how to find joy in simple pleasures or to take pride in the most trivial of things. So thank you little children for teaching me such a precious lesson, for making me smile so much for the first in the longest time and I can only hope that I’ve taught you a little fraction of what you’ve taught me :’) “....... I’ve experienced the feeling of pure joy, pure happiness and pure fulfilment through that of a child’s eyes.” “Do join us in sharing our lives with the young ones in the primary school. May God grant safety and protection on the pupils, teachers, facilitators and bus drivers. Pray that the students will have an open mind and willingness heart to learn and participate in the various activities regarding how human actions can affect the environment and conserve the natural resources. Pray that God will keep them in good health and grant them good weather as they trek in the rain forest and do hands-on activity on farming as well as batik painting at a cultural centre. 2. KFC - Kids’ Fun Club Thank God that many students who came to our Fellowship hall during their recess on Wednesday and Thursday. It is a short time of playing indoor games with them. Do pray that the chaplaincy team - Suet Fong, Gerard and Carol will continue to build good relationship with the students although the time with them is short. We pray for more volunteers to join us in a time of sharing lives as we bond with the little ones. 3. Chapel time - Values Education Praise God for a time of chapel on Wednesday and Thursday with the students. Do pray for good weather before and after chapel as the shelter between the school and sanctuary is limited and it will be challenging for the children when we have wet weather. This is especially difficult when we have back to back chapel lessons on Thursday. Monthly Gathering CP ring at K e h t a g r e all. ly pray wship H o r month u ll o e F r o e f h s at t Yee.
