Positive Behaviour
As our Year 5 and 6 students embarked on their respective excursions last
week, we talked to them about RESPECT (the R in RISE) and how important it
was that this is shown not only in our school but also in the community when
they are representing our school. I challenged them to be the very best they
could be and that my greatest wish was that I receive a phone call from
someone at the venues to say how respectful our students were.
When they returned from their excursions, the teachers and Mr Hart (who
attended the Year 6 Kokoda excursion) were full of praise for the way our
students behaved. The Year 6 students had worked really well together on their
challenges at Mt Cootha and had shown great leadership. The Year 5 teachers said that our
students were by far the best behaved students out of all the schools at Deadly Sports. We were
so proud and we were happy to hear that our students had represented their school so well! On
Friday at assembly I gave both groups of students a special mention...and then it happened!!!
This morning Mr Hart received a phone call from a lady who was serving at the tuckshop at Deadly
Sports. She said she had to ring the school and let us know that our Year 5 students were
exceptionally well behaved. She was impressed with their respectfulness and their manners and
commented on how they had well and truly outshone the other schools she had served that day.
Mr Hart explained about School Wide Positive Behaviour and that this year we had implemented a
program which rewards positive behaviour (Gotchas, Star Awards) and that we had RISE as our
school values. We even have RISE rules at the tuckshop and a focus on manners. She said to
keep up whatever we were doing as it was having an effect on our students. We were so thrilled
and so very proud to hear this lovely news!
The Year 5 students have now set the challenge to see if any other grades can be so well
behaved that someone picks up the phone to tell us!!!!
School Absences
As the first term draws to a
close, it is important that we
reflect on how much school our
children are missing. This table
gives you an idea as to how
even being late to school effects
your child’s education....

Thanks for an AMAZING Term 1. I can’t believe it is almost holidays. Stay safe and enjoy
the Easter break.
Black Shoes
If you are replacing school shoes this upcoming holidays please purchase BLACK SHOES.
I have seen a lot of coloured sandshoes slowly making their way into the school and some
are obviously newly purchased. The continued wearing of incorrect footwear will result in
an orange card.
It is VITAL that you present the original copy of any
UPDATED COURT / LEGAL ORDERS to ensure that
we have the latest information on file.

Walking Wheeling Extravaganza
What a fantastic morning was had by all when we celebrated Walking Wheeling Thursday on
March 12. We had so many students meeting at Mulbeam Park to walk, ride and scooter to
school. It was also great to see so many parents coming along for the walk as well. The morning
got even better when we arrived at school to find a big breakfast waiting for us. I must thank
Michelle and the tuckshop staff for organising the preparation of the food and also to the parents
and family members who gave up their time to help cook and serve the food and drinks.
A special mention to Sue and Penny from GMN Vegie Prepi at the Rocklea Markets for donating
the tasty apples that were enjoyed by not only the students but the teachers and parents as well.
Also to Councillor Victoria Newton who kindly donated the money to allow us to put on a free
breakfast for the school community.
So many people to thank but finally to the teachers who supported the day, the Student Council for
their hard work and to the students who really got behind the program and made the day such a
success.
National Day Against Violence and Bullying
Last Friday saw us celebrate the National Day Against
Violence and Bullying – Take a Stand Together. The students
were encouraged to wear orange to show their support and all
classes were involved in lessons/activities regarding bullying
which is unfortunately a universal problem. This year we paid
particular attention to what to do if you are a bystander. How
can you help when you see someone being bullied? The
catchphrase, “Take a Stand Together” is so relevant as
bystanders have the opportunity to stand up for the person

being bullied in a positive manner. If we work together, we can stamp out bullying issues we have
or that may arise. Talking to your children about the importance of this day will also go a long way
in stamping out bullying in our society.
I have included a link to an outstanding website that is full of information to parents, teachers and
students. I am also happy to provide you with further information if required.

ANZAC Day
Date Claimer: Once again our school will be marching on ANZAC Day at Sandgate. We have had
a fantastic turnout over the last couple of years and we hope to again this year as we
commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC Landing. Details will follow as they come to
hand.
Happy Easter
This will be the last newsletter before the end of a hectic term. I would like to wish you all a
fantastic holiday where you will hopefully get to spend some quality time as a family together.

Parent / Teacher Interview Bookings Close This Week!
Parent-Teacher interviews will be held for years Prep to 6 from 2:50pm to 7:20pm on Monday 30
March. Interviews will be of 10 minutes duration. All interviews will be conducted in the school hall.
For these interviews we will manage bookings using Parent Teacher On-Line (PTO). Using this
system you will be able to book the interview times that suit you best from any internet-connected
computer. The link to book your interview times is on the school website
www.boondallss.eq.edu.au. A letter with detailed instructions was sent home last week with your
child. Bookings will close on Friday 27 March at 2:30pm. If you are unable to access a computer
at home, bookings can be made by phone through the office on 3623 8333.
Meeting with your child’s teacher is a valuable way to gain information on your child’s progress
and it shows students the relationship between home and school. As we head toward Parent /
Teacher Interviews on Monday many parents ask me “What are the types of questions that we can
ask our child’s teacher?” Each teacher will have different pieces of assessment and work to
discuss, however three simple questions can help focus the conversation:
 What was my child learning?
 How did my child go in their learning?
 What does my child need to learn next?
As the interviews are only brief these questions aim to provide you with feedback on how your
child is progressing and clarify their work goals. These questions are also a way to focus your
conversation with your child each day and provide a good framework for talking about school work
at home.

School Band perform. The staff and students were very welcoming and I saw some of our
Boondall graduates from previous years. They were excited to see our current Boondall students
and told them all about how much they were enjoying high school. Here’s what some of our
students said…
“My fellow peers, Miss Chan and I had the time of our lives at Aspley High School. We got to listen
to the Concert Band, do art, games, body percussion and most importantly meet new people and
enjoy a whole new environment. There were many schools joining us. Some were Bald Hills,
Aspley East, Virginia, Taigum, just to name a few. We all had the time of our lives” – Hayley
Lennard (Choir Captain)
“I thought that going to Aspley High School for a day was a great experience and I had heaps of
fun. I think that we all learnt things we didn’t know and we all enjoyed ourselves” – Emily Thomas
(Band Leader)
“I really liked being at Aspley SHS because I could experience what it would be like at High
School. I also got to see some of the old Boondall kids” – Shelby (Deputy Band Leader)
Choir:
This week I sent out the first email contact for Junior and Senior Choir. If your child is in choir and
you did not receive my email, please let me know. While I will continue to put notices in the
newsletter, I use email as a direct communication for choral events.
The Easter Hat Parade will be on Thursday 2 April and both choirs will perform. The Parade will
commence at 1.45pm – see you there.
Keep making music

Year 3 Bunyaville Excursion
This term the Year 3s enjoyed a Bunyaville Incursion to support their learning about living and
non-living things in Science. Here is one of 3F2’s recounts of our incursion.
My Bunyaville Incursion by Simran Sunner
On Thursday the 5th of March 2015, 3F2 went to Boondall’s oval for the Bunyaville incursion to
help us learn about living things.
Agatha showed us a lazy koala, sleeping in the trees for 20 hours.
Agatha read us a book called “My Patch”. It was a great story with a girl and her patch.
In the Leaf Litter Search we had some string to make a one metre square. We had to look inside
to find some living things (eg. ants, caterpillar and spiders).
In the Flora and Fauna Search, we had to look for trees, flowers and grass. We had to put a tally
mark if you found one. It if was the same tree that you found before, you couldn’t put a tally mark.
Later it was lunch time. It was fun.
We sat down and we were quiet and we saw amazing animals coming out of their hiding spot.
There were butterflies, insects and tiny creatures.
When we came back, we shared our ideas and Agatha turned them into a poem.
The incursion was amazing but I wish there were not so many mozzies on that hot Summer day.

Year 3 Teacher
