WELCOME to 100 North Tampa
May • June 2015
Raymond James Financial
Another Branch of St. Petersburg based Raymond James Financial has moved
into the building on the 36th floor. Founded in 1963 and based in St. Petersburg,
Raymond James has nearly 500 billion in assets under management with 2600
advisors nationwide.
Dear Tenants...
Please join me in helping to remove one
more carbon footprint from your daily routine by using the revolving doors to enter
and exit the building. Continuing to use
those swinging doors allows as much as
eight times more cool air loss and warm
air intrusion! If everyone used the revolving doors, it would save more than 75,000
kilowatt-hours of energy and prevent more
than 14 tons of carbon dioxide from being
emitted. By way of comparison, an average motor vehicle emits about six tons of
carbon dioxide over a year! So how do we
get people to use the revolving doors? By
example! Research has shown that there
appears to be a snowball effect: once one
person uses the revolving door, others follow! So be a leader, and prepare to be
followed!
Congratulations! Fran Marro, Luks Santaniello Petrillo & Jones, won 2 tickets to
Best of Tampa Bay in last month’s drawing. Thank you Bev Kieny, KPMG, for your
work promoting this fun event and for the
complimentary tickets won in the drawing!
Be eligible for future ticket opportunities
by placing your business card in the glass
bowl located on the Concierge desk in the
lobby.
Have a safe and fun-filled Memorial Day.
Remember I have terrific discounts on
many Tampa Bay area and Orlando attractions, as well as movie passes to get
you through the hot days of summer that
begin June 21st. I look forward to seeing
you soon!

EXERCISE AND TYPE 2 DIABETES:
Fitness Focus
Did you know that diabetes affects nearly one-tenth of the U.S. population - a widening epidemic with more than 5,000 new cases per day?
Type 2 diabetes, formerly called non-insulin -dependent diabetes or adult-onset diabetes, accounts for about 90% of diabetes cases.
Do you have type 2 diabetes? The good news is that many people can manage their condition by exercising, following a healthy meal plan,
losing excess weight and taking oral medications. But what kind of exercise should you do?
Recent research has shown that resistance exercise is as important as, and perhaps even more important than, aerobic training in diabetes
management (Colberg et al.2010). An increase in muscle mass resulting from resistance training can contribute profoundly to glucose uptake.
However, a combination of aerobic exercise and resistance training is more effective than either type alone.
The recommendations are:
Cardiovascular exercise - At least 3 days a week. No more than 2 consecutive rest days (because of the transient nature of exercise-induced improvements in blood glucose uptake). Colberg et al. (2010). Intensity should be 40%-60% of maximal exercise capacity, at least
150 minutes per week. Activities should last at least 10 minutes and be spread throughout the week.
Resistance Training - 2 times per week on nonconsecutive days and ideally at least 3 time a week. 5 to 10 exercises for the major muscle
groups of the upper and lower body, and core with at least 10-15 repetitions performed to near fatigue. To prevent injury, lift weights slowly
and gradually increase your resistance.
The Downtown YMCA can help you begin a program. Our personal trainers can assess your present condition and can help you begin a safe and
effective workout today! We also have our nutrition specialist , Jeanna Marcinczyk. She can help you get a handle on your nutritional needs.
Contact Jeanna at 813-229-1305 or jeanna.marcinczyk@tampaymca.org.
