DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK’S SECOND
BI-ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL WORK CONFERENCE
Since the first social work class was offered in the summer of 1898 at Columbia University, social
workers have led the way in addressing the needs of society and bringing our nation’s social problems to
the public’s attention. The Department of Social Work in efforts to remain in sync with the values of the
profession, would like to continue in the spirit of collaborating with local and global communities,
private, public and non-profit organizations to be a beacon of light for those who are in need and to
bring about positive change for those who have lost hope. The international social work conference is
one of many endeavors that will support the efforts that are geared towards advocacy and mitigation of
the continued violence and injustices in the world. Featured international , national and regional
speakers will address many of the world’s social problems and concerns including poverty,
homelessness, human trafficking, immigration and the impact on the department of family and
children services, the war on terrorism and post-traumatic stress disorder, global connections via
educational endeavors and the phenomenon of laughter as a universal language.
Conference Venue
The ASU Billy Black (ACAD) auditorium is located on the beautiful campus of Albany State University
across from the Public Safety Department. The intersection of Radium Springs Road and Joseph Holly
Dr. provides the landmark for the location of the event.
