Montserrat and Barbuda Site Manager – Position Description
Location: Montserrat and Barbuda
Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week
Duration: 3-year commitment expected
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Site Manager will manage the Blue Halo Initiative in Montserrat and support implementation of Blue Halo
Barbuda. Expected to spend 75% of time on Montserrat and 25% on Barbuda. Position will report to the Waitt
Institute (WI) Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
• General management of Blue Halo Initiative in Montserrat and Barbuda
• Coordinate with WI staff and keep all WI staff up-to-date on project
• Coordinate collaborators in Montserrat and Barbuda, including politicians, civil servants, and public
stakeholders (fishermen, tourism operators, NGOs, etc.)
• Planning for and guiding implementation of toolkit elements WI offers to partner governments,
including: communications, community consultations, community survey, ecological assessment,
habitat mapping, zoning and mapping analysis, legal assessment, economic assessment, building
local capacity, fisheries certification, and education.
• Ensure project adheres to timeline and budget
• Coordinate public affairs & diplomacy
• Various logistical and administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned
Desired qualifications:
• Strong commitment to science-based, community-driven, sustainable ocean management
• Record of successful management of complex, collaborative projects
• Stellar communications and diplomatic skills – public speaking, facilitation, writing/editing
• Ability to clearly and simply convey scientific topics to the public
• Background in marine policy, science, and economics
• Ability to manage time efficiently and keep track of and prioritize amongst many tasks
• Broad network of colleagues within the ocean conservation community, specifically in the Caribbean.
• Ability to complete tasks rapidly with an appropriate level of detail
• Academic degree(s) in relevant field (Master’s degree preferred)
• Flexibility to respond to changing assignments
• Independent and internally-motivated
• Expertise with Microsoft Office
• Basis GIS skills for developing and editing maps
• Drivers license
• Website management (via Wordpress) and graphic design (via Adobe Illustrator, InDesign)
• SCUBA certification and scientific diving experience
• Science education experience (field and classroom)
• Communications/Press/PR experience
• Experience with event planning and execution
• Resourcefulness (i.e., MacGyverness)
