Welcome to Berkshire South
A Note from the Executive Director
As I was leafing through this catalogue preparing my thoughts to share with you, it occurred
to me how often I say, “Berkshire South Regional Community Center offers something for
every one, of all abilities and all ages.” Then, it struck me how amazingly true that statement
is. Scanning page after page reviewing preschool to aquatics to youth programming, Zumba,
adaptive programs and Pilates, I saw a breadth of opportunities that go beyond most other
offerings in the Berkshires, each with the potential to enhance your life.
This naturally led me to thinking about our members, their needs and the community we
all share; the importance of ensuring that the Community Center’s benefits are available to
all in spite of the ability to pay. The founding principles of Berkshire South have been made
only stronger over the years as we work together to fulfill the promise of health and wellness,
camaraderie and companionship. It is possibly one of the healthiest aspects of life – to be a
part of something, a contributing member of a positive collective. We want to provide such a place for you, your family and the
Southern Berkshires and, above all, we want it to be fun. Your participation and support make it possible.
This year is special for me personally. My baby girl has just begun attending the Sunshine Preschool Program, and I, like other
mothers with children here, know that Reese will be engaged by creative activities and caring, supportive adults while mommy
is busy at work. My older daughter, all of five now, is similarly occupied with the Center’s Out Of School programming that
provides her with a safe, warm and nurturing environment until we are all ready to head home to our evening with Dad.
Whatever your circumstance, young, old, teen, married, single, healthy or recuperating, there is something here at the
Community Center for you. Take a moment and leaf through the catalogue yourself to see what catches your fancy. You’ll find
plenty to choose from. We’re here to serve, and we look forward to welcoming you throughout 2015!
Jenise Lucey
Executive Director

Community Academy
Berkshire South collaborates with local
school districts to provide Community
Academy, which is designed to address the
risk factors and anti-social behaviors that
result in school suspensions. The intervention
program provides a structured academic and
experiential learning program for youth who
have been suspended by the school system.
An alternative to out-of-school suspensions,
suspended students report to the Center for
a morning of academic tutoring and work on
community service projects in the afternoon
for the duration of their suspension. Through
intervention, the program serves to provide
youth with the tools to build responsive
community connections. To determine
whether Community Academy is appropriate
for your student, please contact your school’s
vice principal.
Anti-Bullying Initiative
The Anti-Bullying Initiative is a successful
preventive program. The objective is to teach,
inform, and raise awareness to the problem
of bullying and its effect on children. The
curriculum focuses on anger management
training, conflict resolution, confidence
building, and improved communication
methods. The initiative also strives to
heighten the community’s awareness of signs
and symptoms of bullying. Berkshire South
is proud to be a “bully free zone”. For more
information, please call 413.528.2810 ext. 30

Berkshire South
Community Cornerstone
One of the most effective and simplest ways you can ensure that all the things
you care about, including Berkshire South Regional Community Center, last
long after you have gone, is by leaving a bequest in your will. While often
thought of as a “planned gift,” it is much more than that. It is a way for you to
leave a lasting legacy and to help Berkshire South continue to meet the needs
of the community long into the future.
Your gift will list you in the Community Cornerstone. This enthusiastic group
of individuals has spelled out their intentions and wishes in their will. While
perhaps you have often thought about leaving a gift for Berkshire South,
thinking without action will not make it happen. It is important that you take the
steps to ensure a lasting legacy to the organizations that you care about most.
We ask you to consider including Berkshire South Regional Community Center
on your list of those organizations you want to see continue its great work for
generations to come. It’s quite an easy thing to do. Talk with your family, talk
with your financial advisors, and then talk with us.
Berkshire South Regional Community Center is a non-profit, tax-exempt
charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
