DESPERATELY NEEDED!!! Some dads who are able to pick up and/or return the trailer fridges required for the Easter Fair. If you are able to help please email or contact Warren Jackson wjackson2@bigpond.com A Word from Our Principal We are always at the mercy of the weather at this time of year and look hopefully towards the skies as we draw ever closer to our Easter Fair. All reports indicate we are heading into a period of exceptional weather so we can only maintain our optimistic outlook. Our first major hurdle however was for the weather to stand up for our school cross country. Despite it being a slightly windy day it was typically fantastic to see so many families once again turn up to support and cheer on not just their own child, but all children. Thank you to all who were able to attend, and to the staff for their organisation and ‘running’ of the event. We are hoping to include the kinder children in next year’s event who certainly looked like they enjoyed the spectacle from their wonderful new facility. Discussions have already been had with the kinder staff in order to facilitate their involvement. Tuesday Lunches - Sushi Please note that today (there will be an early lunch at 1.00 pm an early Assembly at 2.00 pm and an early dismissal at 2.30 pm. We extremely are pleased to announce that children will also be able to order their lunches on Tuesdays. ‘Mitzy’s Japanese Cuisine’ will be providing Sushi every Tuesday. There is a menu included in this newsletter. Mitsue McEnroe, mum of Taiyo in grade 2, if offering a variety of choices of this popular food. The menu is included within this newsletter and will no doubt proof to be a popular option for lunches for booth staff and students. We are asking if anyone has any of these items we will kindly accept any donations of the following items: 2 Polystyrene boxes with lids, 1000 Worms and 4 bricks! Donations will be kindly accepted in Mr Burdess’ s classroom!! Calum, Jack & Sam Hand Foot and Mouth Disease There have been a few confirmed cases of hand foot and mouth disease around the school. This infection is spread by direct contact with fluid from the skin blisters, nose and throat discharges (including saliva, sputum or nasal mucus), droplets (sneezing, coughing) and faeces (stools). Good personal hygiene is important to prevent spread of the infection to others. The skin blisters of HFMD are infectious until they become crusty and there is no fluid in the blisters. Head Lice There have been a few isolated cases of Head lice about so it is a good idea to check your child’s hair every now and then. If you do find lice in your child’s hair can you please make sure that they are treated properly and combed out before they return to school. Are you a Parent Helper in your child’s class? Please note that if you come into the school grounds to help out in the Classroom at any point you must come through to the front office and sign yourself in. Absences If your child is absent from school for any reason you must notify the school. You can notify the school via email, phone or write a note and send it to school. We highly advise a phone call or an email to explain an absence. It is extremely important that if your child is absent that you let the school know otherwise it will be an unexplained absence that will show on reports and data. Late: It is Department regulations that if your child is late to school they are required to be signed in by a Barwon Heads School life-long learning and the attainment of excellence. parent/guardian andPrimary they will needpromotes to bring integrity, a late pass to their teacher. After School Care – Camp Australia Hi Everyone! Last week the children got involved with some group games inside! We learnt a new game called stuck in the mud which was really fun to play! Everyone in after school care got involved and it was really good to see everyone play together. The children also practised our fire and lock down drills this week so that we know what to do to keep safe in emergency situations! Some of the children got a little bit scared in case something did happen but we made sure that all of the children knew that our aim was to keep everyone safe so even if something did happen, they would be safe. This week, we have started off with some colouring in, painting, glitter painting and play dough. The children this week seem to be really artistic and creative which is always really nice to see. We are also preparing for our after school care awards that will be presented next week at assembly, the children are all on their best behaviour to compete for the awards! We are looking for some pre-loved sporting equipment, games and puzzles to add to our after school care collection, if you have anything you no longer use, please feel free to drop in, we would really appreciate it. Families please note that whislt we currently only provide after school care we are taking expressions of interest for BEFORE SCHOOL CARE, we have a bit of interest but we need a couple more families to get involved so that we have the numbers to provide the before school care service. Please let us know if you are interested to ensure we can try and provide this service as soon as possible. You can let us know by calling the OSHC phone (number is provided below) or calling into the office/room which is located near the gym, we are here Monday to Friday 2:30pm to 6:00pm. We would love to hear from you :) Any questions please call us on 0432 636 625. EASTER FAIR 2015 Only a week to go before we kick off our Easter Fair with the Art Show Party! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who have spent months working towards making the event a success. The Easter Fair Committee is made up of a fantastic group of parents and staff that are an absolute pleasure to work with. Quite a number of committee members have picked up an element to coordinate for the first time - a daunting task! It’s been fantastic to hear new ideas and enthusiasm and to see the event come together. A lot of work takes place behind the scenes and it would be impossible to list everyone and the work they have done. Darren, Maureen and Ann put in hours and hours of work, often in their personal time. I could not do this job without them. Rachael Curtain helps me wherever I need (with a smile). Tiara has to put up with my constant emails and requests and is an important part of our team. I could go on and on. We still have a lot of vacancies on the roster. We need more volunteers to ensure the success of the fair. Staff and committee members have had to pull in people from outside the school community to help. Legally, we have to have a certain number of volunteers to hold the Sheepwash Classic. We would love some more help with setting up the fair and pack up. Please continue to email me to sign up on the roster at wjackson2@bigpond.com. Sarah Jackson WRIST BANDS FOR UNLIMITED RIDES!
